Not all Win 7 Ultimate users showing up on other computers
I have a network (workgroup, not domain) with several computers, mixture of Win 7 and XP, and Windows Home Server 2011. One of my computers has only 2 users - "Jon" and "Public". Some computers on network can see "Jon" and "Public" as users, but most see only "Public" user. "Jon" can see all other computers, and file sharing works for Jon. A computer next to "Jon" also has Win 7, and other computers can see all users on that computer, and file sharing works both ways, so there is something with the "Jon" computer which is preventing some other computers from seeing his user over the network. I am failing to see what I need to do to make this user "seeable". From a computer that does not see "Jon" I tried something like \\JonPC\Users\Jon\Documents\shoppics\lunch.jpg but it tells me it cannot access the file. From another computer that can see "Jon", I put the same string in and the image comes up. I'm sure this is something simple I am overlooking.

Have you tried \\IP_address instead of the JonPC? Make sure the users have permissions to access Jon's data this seems to be an issue as well.

A. Workgroup has distributed "responsibility". Every user is local user at every computer and server except those that is forbidden access. B. Audit can give you information on problems with access. C. There may be problem wirh authentication and SMB. This may help 1 . Open registry editor ( Start search - regedit) 2 . Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel VALUE: 1 4. Restart your PC and try the connection again... As to the SMB here is how to downgrade it http://www.petri.co.il/how-to-disable-smb-2-on-windows-vista-or-server-2008.htm Regards Milos

Thanks for the responses. I tried something new - from the JonPC - I went to: network/JonPC/Users/Jon. Right click; share with, and used the drop-down menu to share with everyone. I have not tried it with all computers on the network, but I tried with 2 that did not see user Jon before and they do now. Oddly, I did not have to do this with the other Win 7 computers. But it does seem to be working, and it was simple. Thanks again.
