Are you using IP6 adress in Vista by any chance? The IP adress are static or assigned by DHCP?

I am using Windows Vista Enterprise Edition with Service pack 1 installed. It is added to the domain. Domain policies are applied. ICMP is allowed. Firewall is on. Regards, Asha

Which antivirus are you using? Is it norton by any chance?Try to disable to windows firewall on both the XP and Vista comp, and check if you are able to ping or not?And try to boot both the computers in cleanboot mode and check if you are able to ping? Also with Windows Safe mode with Networking, and have a check. Please let me know the result of these.

Hi Harpreet Singh, Thank you for the reply. I have checked the links which you have given. When I off the Windows Firewall, I can Ping the Vista machines. But in domain it is not recommended to switch off the Windows Firewall. Networking - Echo Request (ICMPv4-In) is enabled and the Action is Blocked in Domain. I have removed the block and allowed it, it is able to ping the vista machine but giving Junk value. ie. IP address is not coming, instead some numbers are displaying We are not using Nortron Antivirus. I tried netsh command. That also didnt help. Awaiting for the answers, which will help me out to solve this query. Thanks in Advance, Regards, Asha

Hi Asha, As you said that you are able to ping other Vista computers with Firewall disabled, so the issue is with the firewall(expected). We might have to add some exclusion in this case. You can go to firewall with advanced security and configure ICMP inbound allow. Have a check on these links:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/allow-pings-icmp-echo-request-through-your-windows-vista-firewall/http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_join_domain.htm http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6131599.htmlhttp://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/4da18300-9044-47b6-9038-595c78db81ab1033.mspxhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722062.aspx http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6098592.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=trhttp://maximumpcguides.com/windows-vista/add-an-exception-in-the-windows-vista-firewall/ http://searchenterprisedesktop.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid192_gci1217062,00.html?ShortReg=1&mboxConv=searchEnterpriseDesktop_RegActivate_Submit&
