Hey, I have had a similar problem on two different customer pc's,, and networking aint my thing.Anyways,, the setups are pretty simple, router, wifi adapter, cable modem. On subject AWindows XP PRO 32bitToshiba Satelite A105-S2071 Laptopthe Atheros Internal Wifi Adapter, Zonet ZEW2546 USB Wifi Adapter, Internal Realtek LAN, (the zonet is on a realtek chipset.)(Ive also tried it on an encore router wireless,, and a dlink router wireless,, err,, the two routers I have tried with)Basically, the problem started "randomly", now I can get internet through LAN only, no wifi. cpl months ago I gave her the USB adapter because it had better range, is only reason, and had disabled the original wifi. Now, when you hook up, it just keeps trying to connect, but never establishes an ip address. Renew/release didnt work. Defaulting all settings didnt work.Removing the Network from the Wireless Networks didnt work.Verifying they were speaking the same WPA-2 PSK TKIP language,Ran the WinsockitFix from Microsoft..Ran the IPStackFix from Microsoft..Uninstalled and reinstalled every latest driver, with appropriate reboots.. Same with all related software, services, protocols, and the other one...Ran Malware Antibytes before all this,, did find and eliminate virus's. Ran Glarys Registry Repair after all this,, no luckTried to run the Microsoft Base Security Analyzer but errored.Tried to uninstall/reinstall windows components, but got errors (believe because of registry program) Anyways,, I am already in process of fresh install, as is a guaranteed solution (unless hardware failure), but I still want to know how to fix these problems when all settings are right, but its like the wifi devices get bogged up and start chasing their tales. Like they decide they dont know how to communicate. It has to be something that is refreshable, but I have seen this problem 3 or 4 times and no matter how much effort I put into research,, I cant figure this one out...I have read a LOT of forums :) if you cant tell.I feel like this tends to happen on Professional only (but that could be bad memory, but may help you narrow)always xp pro 32 bit if memory serves,, (have had zero encounters with a 64 bit xp, only vista, 7) Let me know what other details I can provide,, Im sorry I cant duplicate the problem anymore, but this is still something that needs to be solved. And in your opinion, is the zonet adapter I am using error-prone? Ive had bad experiences... should I get the driver from them or realtek?
