Not able to map office network drive
Purchased a new HP desktop and a HP laptop. Both running Windows 7 home premium. Desktop is used in the main office. Set up a VPN from the laptop to the desktop. Everything worked fine on the LAN and while testing at several Wi-Fi locations around the city that the main office is located in. I was able to open the VPN and see the shared file folder on the desktop and navigate to the required file each time. Now that I am in my home/office several states away I can open the VPN connection at will with no problems but can not see the shared folder on the desktop (or the desktop at all) Nothing was changed on either computer. Tried taking down both firewalls with out success. Also tried connection directly to my modem (no router in the path) My local network shows up but not the office desktop. (also connected the VPN from my desktop XP to the office Desktop and wasn't able to see the shared folder) Not sure why it would work in one areal but not in the other. Any ideas on how to get it to work? Also, unable to ping IP address (worked in the local city) but am able to connect the VPN (confirmed in the main office

Remove the antivirus to test. To see all programs that can be disabled, you can also go to a MS program called msconfig. To get to msconfig follow these steps. start>>all programs>>Accessories>>command promp>>, and in command promp type msconfig>>, press the ENTER key.

Hey Are you using windows firewall or anti-virus firewall??? Damien

We took down the firewall and anti-virus (Windows firewall and Windows Defender) on both ends without any luck. I can connect the VPN each time and I can see my own home network, I just can't see the shared folder on the Desktop located in the main office in Seattle. I'm leaning towards a problem with the Static IP address provider in Seattle since I can ping the gateway but not the computer. I'm just puzzled because it all worked perfectly in and around Seattle but not here.

This didn't work either. Let me review. 1. VPN worked perfectly in and around Seattle area. could see other computer, shared folder and navigate to file folder needed. 2. Flew home to South Dakota. Did not change anything. VPN connects every time. Can't "see" other computer or shared file folder. 3. Have taken own all security and firewalls. Connected direct to modem. 4. Tried connection from other locations around town. Same results.
