Not able to delete folders created by windows update
Hi,
whenever there is an update from windows update a folder is getting created at my E:/ drive with a random name like "678ce5abd69933f543cfbb2a9662de9f".
After the update installation is done the folder is not getting deleted
Manually i am also not able to delete it as it has owner type system.
Please let me know in what way i will be able to remove it or any setting that i have to do.'
Thanks
Gyana

According to what I know, Windows updates should be stored in the %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
If you really want to delete a folder managed by Windows Update try stopping the Windows Update AutoUpdate Service by opening a command prompt window and running the following command
net stop wuauserv
Delete the folder or the folders you want to delete and then re-start the above mentioned service by running the following command
net start wuauserv
Bye.

you should be able to take the ownership of that folder
properties - security - advanced
owner - edit

it has been more than 100 such folders and each folder contains 10-12 such folders.

Just an idea.
Have you tried using disk cleanup, it should recognize that those are temp system files and should be able delete them.

Sorry to say but not at all useful
I have really been disaponted by this windows update.
i really don't understand why it is dumping the update installation files at drives E:\ or F:\
rather dumping at %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.

As far as I am aware, it takes the drive with the most available disk space for temp caches.
Use Process Explorer from sysinternals.com to verify it is really wua accessing the folders. You can hit that little binocular button and enter the Fodlername to find them. You can also use Process Monitor to check.
