I work for a medical instrument manufacturer. Our instruments are now required to use the Windows 8 operating system. We are trying to write an installer that will install our software on the instrument. When the installation begins, the first thing that happens is, directories are created to put our system software in. This step fails with the error, "Instrument is not a valid short file name." where 'Instrument' is the name of a directory we wish to create. Is there a way to tell Windows 8 that we don't want to be restricted to the 8.3 directory and file naming convention?
