Nortel Contivity for Vista
Anyone have this client that work with Vista? On a early post, Darth Nuts send some great news. If Darth read this post, please share this client !! Darth Nuts Supported platforms The Nortel pre-release client for Microsoft Vista should only be installed on Vista. Installation InstructionsThe Nortel VPN Client for Vista must be installed by an Administrator and in XP compatibility mode. Failure to install in XP compatibility mode will result in errors during the installation of the VPN drivers. If this occurs, set eac607d.exe for XP compatibility mode and reinstall. To set XP compatibility mode, transfer the eac607d.exe installation program to the Vista machine. In Windows Explorer, right click on the eac607d.exe file and select properties. Under the Compatibility tab, check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for: and set the pull down to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Finally press OK. Note that the installer is marked as requiring administrator rights via a manifest, thus there is no need to set the privilege level on the Compatibility tab. To begin the install, double click on eac607d.exe. UAC will prompt for elevation. Select Continue. Follow the usual installation prompts. During installation of the VPN Client Drivers you will be prompted multiple times for permission as the VPN drivers are installed on the various interfaces. Select the Always trust content from Nortel checkbox in order to avoid these prompts. Known Limitations and CaveatsThe pre-release Nortel VPN Client for Vista Beta2 has the following limitations. These will be addressed in the general release. The Nortel VPN Client must be run as an administrator. UAC will always prompt for elevation when it is executed. The VPN Client will only install and run as an Application. This is due to Vistas services hardening and the deprecation of the GINA infrastructure. Only UDP encapsulation is supported. This is due to changes in the Microsoft stack which prevents ESP packets from reaching the VPN driver as it is currently implemented. The enabling of UDP encapsulation is done in the Contivity switchs group profile. For Vista users, the NAT Traversal setting must be any option other than Not Allowed. The VPN client help does not work. This is due to the removal of support for the .hlp format from Vista.

Nortel VPN 6.07d or higher is the only application I'm waiting for before I can install Vista on my production unit. I really hope someone on this forum or someone from Nortel can make this beta application available to us.

I have it installed and working on Vista Home Premium on both a Dell Insipron 1501 laptop and on my desktop PC. I use it almost everyday to connect to work. Although you may have a little problem with the install (it has to install with recomended settings) and you will get messages saying there are problems installing drivers. After running the install about 3-4 times it will install cleanly and work with no problems.

I downloaded the beta version and I am trying to set the compatability. Does anyone know which file is the eac607d.exe. I don't see it in the folder. If it is the application, I already set everything and it still won't work. Any advise. I'm kind of new at this. Thanks.

I downloaded the 6.07 from that link and mine says expired. I was able to install and run it before but after a few months, it says expiring and finally it expired. When I tried to reinstall it, it still says expired. Also, I noticed that if you set the installation file to XP comp mode, it will complained that you are installing it on Vista and you shouldnt set the compatibility mode to XP. I found another eac607.exe file in the internet but I noticed that this file is only 2.6mb and the one I installed that expired which is from that site Darth nut says which is the pre-release is 4.6mb+. Anyway, I install this 2.6mb file one and now I am getting the message "eacfilt driver must be enabled". Nortel is pretty much useless. Hope they continues losing money and close
July 26th, 2007 1:40am

I was running into the same problems. A month ago I was running just fine on the beta 6.07d nortel client (4.25 Meg eac607d.exe). Then I started getting the "This version will expire in X days". I started looking for a newer version and found the 7.01 version. For my experimenting this version willNOT work on Vista. It will install just fine but it will always give you the "Eacfilt Driver must be bound to active interfaces" error--even though it is bound. I started doing a bunch of uninstalling and reinstalling, switching my local date back a month, swapping out dlls and drivers. It kind of funny Nortel took some extra steps just to make sure you can't use the beta. For instance, ifyou switch your time back to June 2007 and try to log on you'll get this error, "This build has expired according to the switch time" Anyway what I finally did to make it work was to install the old 6.07d beta. I thenmade sure that I wasn't getting the Eacfilt error by setting my clock back and trying to connect. Next I downloaded the non-beta version of the 6.07d nortel client (2.60 Meg eac607d.exe) and installed over the beta and rebooted. That seemed to be the trick. I'm sure if I did a clean install of the non-beta version it would work too, but I'm not touching the set up I have now, because it is working. yeha. BTW, Nortel seems to be allowing downloading of this non-beta client from their site now: www130.nortelnetworks.com/cgi-bin/eserv/cs/main.jsp?cscat=SOFTWARE&resetFilter=1&poid=10621Checksum: e676ddacf47d2969b949f801aafd71e0 [MD5] I hope this helps someone else.

I am running Vista ultimate on Dell M90 (64 bit machine); tried installing Nortel Connectivity VPN client (128 bit) version 6.07 -- get message that says "this version is only for Vista -- turn off compability mode for CVC" or similar. I think I tired all combinations of compatibility mode without success. I suspect this is an x64 bit architecture issue, but the installer isn't checking for that and thus some internal fault is causing the Vista compatibility checker to run. If anyone knows of Nortel schedules for rolling out an x64 client, or has access to beta Connectivity VPN client, I'd sure appreciate a pointer.

So according to this site - Windows Vista-compatible third-party virtual private network (VPN) client schedules: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929490 Norle was supposed to have launched a beta version for Vista64 on 9/30/07. I keep looking every few days but nothing seems to have happened yet. The KB was last updated early September, though. I have tried emailing Nortel support to find out when they will publish it, but ave not heard back. The regular Vista client worked fine, but on only on VIsta 32 bit.

Nortel has launched a new client V6_07.027 for vista users. This version has fixed a lot of bugs in the older codes of VPN client. The client expiration issue was due to a problem in the code forcing it to expire at a date. I'll be more than glad to be any help I can about any issue related to Nortel Contivity. OK I am also trying to install eac607d in my windows Vista HP laptop. I need it for work. I have honestly tried at least 40 times and tried doing it in administrator mode, compatability for XP mode, tried different locations. Looked through regedit for anything that could be causing it to not work. I just keep getting the exact same error no matter what I do! The error that I am getting is " installation of the contivity vpn client driver failed." No matter what I do it only gets to this stage, the above error pops up and then it un installs itself. If anyone has any idea on what I can do I would really apprecaite it. Thanks George

so has any one really had any luck - i just upgraded to Vista and am having a hell of a time getting v06_07.026 (128 bit) to work - essentially - changed to comp mode of eac607d located under the Client DIR. then i kick off eac607d - the pink windows installer spalsh screen comes up for Nortel but then it just says the same thing: This version of VPN client can only be installed on Vista If this is a vista system turn off the compatibilty mode for the CVC generally this is eac607d anyone can point me in the right direction here? thank you for your time

Hello all,I'd the same problem regarding the install of Nortel CVC on Vista with the Self-Extracting package. So I downloaded the same version in ZIP file, extract them in a temp folder and launch the eac607d.exe directly from the \Client subfolder and that's worked fine !!!!But , now my problem is that when I try a connection I received a message "verify that UDP 10001 port inbound is open on the firewall", (or something like that)thanks you

Hi, I also have a very similar problem trying to get Nortel VNC Client 6.07.027 running on Vista Business. When I try connecting I get the message "Unable to connect to the server. If a firewall is enabled it must be configured to allow outbound traffic on UDP port 49001." I'm sure that this port is enabled. Does anyone have a solution for this yet? Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I have just tried to instal Nortel ver 6_07d on my Vista 64 bit os and am still recieving the error message: "Installation of connectivity VPN Client driver failed." If anyone has a fix pls respond.Thx
February 11th, 2008 7:55pm

Hey!!! The message is correct you have to configure your firewall to open that port and some additonal ones. I encountered the same problem with Norton Internet Security 2007 and the 32-bit version of Vista. I did not add the ports (because making a lot a changes in any firewall without a backup or rollback mechanism is unwise.) Alternatively I unchecked "Stealth Blocked Ports" under Norton Internet Security tab>>> Personal firewall>>>Configure>>>Advanced Settings in the Port Stealhing section. That seem to workaround the issue until I have enough time to sit and learn every aspect of Norton's firewall. Note: Remember to re-check after disconnecting from your VPN connection. Not sure what is open, hopefully once connected to your company VPN their firewall will be more advanced then your personal one.

Nortel released a *beta* 64-bit VPN client. I installed it on a Vista x64 Dell machine. In my experience, it disconnects every 3 minutes. If you have an agreement with Nortel via your company, you can try to become part of the beta program. I was not informed when the final would be released.

I called Nortel today and was informed that they are planning a 64 bit release in December. It sounded like they would love to have it done too. I think they had promised an October release, but couldn't make it happen. I also asked about the beta version. I was instructed to submit a support request for that. The person I talked to wasn't sure the beta program was still active, so maybe they are getting close.

I did not experience any issues with the client so far and again, I'm using x64 version on a Windows 7 x64 RC system on a Dell D620 laptop. As far as I recall screensaver password protection works with your domain account/password, pretty similar to how locking your workstation works. Back in the days of Win95/98 it was a separate password configured in screensaver properties, I believe.@jmbfit: can you please give us more detail on what is it that your are experiencing ?Thanks, MarcinMarcin Dobija | MCSE+S | MCITP:EA,SA | MCDBA | MCTS:W2k8,E2k7,SQL2005,OCS,ISA | MCBMSP:CRM4 | MS ITAC Member
