Noob needing help
Hi all, I am having some secuity issues with my laptop. I am running vista, and things just didnt seem right so i ran Microsoft security essentials and it showed a couple of trojans which it now says have been removed. However since then i am getting a Microsoft pop up informing me that the host process for windows service stopped working and was closed and that A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. I then get up a second pop up directing me to Microsoft updates. When i click on the link (or go directly to the Microsoft updates) the page loads but then i get an error saying the connection was reset. My automatic updates is also switched off and when i try to reset this i get a Microsoft window opo up saying the program will not run, the dependency service or group failed to start. As i say im a noob so please explain in idiot proof language, thanks in advance.

Hi, You might try to run an offline antivirus tool such as Kaspersky Rescue Disk (here). You can burn it to a CD or a USB and boot to it to clear the disk. Hope this helps. CathalCathal O'Brien BSc, PgDip, PhD . Techsmart Computer Repair

Hi, With regarding to the Trojan, please download the latest definition and check the result. Also it seems the only symptom this Trojan caused is "Alert notifications or detections of this malware from installed antivirus or security software may be the only other symptoms." Please see this. I would suggest you to follow the methods provided below and check if it helps. Method 1: Check Windows Update related services ==================== 1. Click Start, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 2. In the right pane, please check whether the following four services have been started: Background Intelligent Transfer Service Cryptographic Services Automatic Updates Event Log If not, please double click the service. In the tab "General ", make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start this service. Method 2: Check windows update history to find the error code for the failed updates. Right click on the failed update and click on view. Check for the updates that failed in Update history. a. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update. b. In the left pane, click View update history. c. To view more information about an update, double-click it. Method 3: I would suggest you to resetWindows Update components and check if it helps.
