Non functioning microphone after Windows 7 upgrade
I've recently upgraded my vista HP pavillion TX2000 notebook to windows 7 and now the internal microphone is not working. I've tried all the fixes described on the net forums but it is still not functioning. Help please

Have you your microphone in Device Manager?Start - Control panel - Sound - Recordingsee´s you here somethink? if not upgrade you drivers. If driver update not working, reinstall your system and make fresh install of Windows 7. That is the best way, and it takes many many less time:)

Hi, In addition, please also try the following: 1. Go to “Control Panel - Hardware and Sound – Sound”. 2. In the Sound window, switch to Recording tab, right-click on the box listing the current devices and select Show Disabled Devices. 3. Check if the Microphone is disabled. If so, please enable it. If it still failed to work, you can also check other devices. 4. If the Microphone is already been enabled, please check its properties and adjust the settings. Meanwhile, I would like to share the following with you: Troubleshoot audio-recording problems Open the Recording Audio troubleshooter Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi Nicholas, Thanks for providing the steps above, however, they don't work for me, nor does the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting (MATS) utility, which doesn't detect any problems. My problem is similar: mic originally worked under Vista, and no longer works after upgrade to Win 7. External headset mic no longer captures audio through front panel input jack (only mic input on machine) after upgrade (from Vista) to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. Audio out jack on front panel functions properly. Dell XPS/Dimension 420; built 12/07; Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz; 8MBDIMM. Any other ideas? Thank you.

Hi Nicholas, My problem is the same as grass1 and Drosbor, however this is what I noticed, after clicking Sound > Recording tab > Select Default Microphone device (wasn't disabled & is only microphone on comp) > properties > levels The normal config is Microphone at 100, Microphone boost at 0.0 dB, okay all properties look fine (note: if you raise the microphone boost, you'll hear lots of static) Okay so all is normal now go back to the "Sound" browser, right click the default microphone and select "configure speech recognition" now click "set up microphone" then select "other" (you can select desktop microphone and the same thing I'm about to say will happen). Then click next until you come to the "Adjust the volume of microphone" prompt. Now you're supposed to read a sentence and when you read it you should normally see a green bar appear to show the loudness level of your voice. Okay, so when I read this, no green bar appears, apparently the mic doesn't hear any sound, but when I tap my fingers on the screen near the microphone the green bar appears and I hear my fingers tapping. So obviously the microphone works, it just doesn't work as well and isn't as sensitive as it was when I had vista installed. Even though this prompt is supposed to be used to adjust the volume of the microphone when configuring it to the voice recognition software, there is no option to actually adjust the volume of the microphone which makes the whole configuration process useless. Please advise - I've tried everything else you've provided with no luck P.S. I appologize for any typos
