No video when the computer resumes from standby or hibernation on Windows XP
Original title: Standby/Hibernate functions do not work properly. Standby Light blinks when computer is fully powered on and when powering on from actually being in standby mode, no video displaysSo as soon as the computer begins to boot, the power button begins to blink as if on standby rather than fully powered on. This is not in itself much of a problem but is I imagine a clue to my real problem. When I actually do go into standby or hibernate then try to power the computer back on I hear it power up but no video is displayed and I have to manually reboot the computer to get it to work right again. It's an Emachines T3418 if that matters.

Hi Vauba, Do you remember making any changes (hardware/software) to the computer very lately? If you experience abnormal behavior when a computer enters or resumes from hibernation or standby, this may occur for one or more of the following reasons:· Outdated or incompatible device drivers· Incompatible third-party software· Outdated peripheral firmware· Outdated system firmware· Outdated computer hardware I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned in the link in the order in which they are presented. How to troubleshoot hibernation and standby issues in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477 Hope this information is helpful and let me know if you need any further assistance.Mouneshwar R – Microsoft Support-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think

Have these functions ever worked properly in the past?If they have worked properly in the past, what do you think might have changed since the last time they worked properly? With Stand By and Hibernate issues I tend to suspect video drivers first, so do you recall making any changes in to your system regarding video drivers? The eMachines web page says your system has NVIDIA display system, so if that is the case, I would do this:I would navigate to the NVIDIA website and let their online scanner take a look at your video system and see what it suggests for drivers and consider their analysis if they suggest a new driver. It is recommended to run the NVIDIA scan with Internet Explorer. Here is the address to the NVIDIA page:http://www.nvidia.com/Download/PreScan.aspx?lang=en-usRead the directions, then click the GRAPHICS DRIVERS button to start the scan.If following their directions does not straighten things out, then do this:Please provide additional information about your system:What is your XP Version and Service Pack?Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc.Does the afflicted system have a working CD/DVD drive?Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD (this is not the same as any Recovery CDs that came with your system)?Let's see what your system details are right now:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.Maybe someday the XP forums "Ask a question" dialog will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I do not have to ask them every single time. Do, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!

Yes these functions have worked in the past. We had the computer several years before the problem occurred and I thought it wasn't happening again right away after reinstalling the OS but didn't check to thoroughly.had already updated the video drivers beforehand so that's not the problem. Also, again the power light begins to blink as if on standby immediately when the computer is powered on, before any programs or even before windows has loaded. I don't know if I know what I'm talking about but it seems that most programs couldn't cause errors this early in the boot process. Am I wrong? So if any programs or drivers could be causing this I'm not sure how to identify which ones. I'm not the only user of this computer and not the only one to have installed programs.I have XP Home SP3, McAfee AntiVirus Plus, Haven't gotten around to installing a separate Spyware toolset since reinstalling the OS a few months ago. I'm not sure if I have a genuine XP CD, it's possible one is floating around the house but I'm not sure where if I have one.System Summary:OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home EditionVersion 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600OS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationSystem Manufacturer GatewaySystem Model T3418System Type X86-based PCProcessor x86 Family 15 Model 44 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2009 MhzBIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 1/13/2006SMBIOS Version 2.3Windows Directory C:\WINDOWSSystem Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1Locale United StatesHardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)"Time Zone Pacific Standard TimeTotal Physical Memory 512.00 MBAvailable Physical Memory 55.08 MBTotal Virtual Memory 2.00 GBAvailable Virtual Memory 1.96 GBPage File Space 1.21 GBPage File C:\pagefile.sys Display:Name NVIDIA GeForce 6100PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0242&SUBSYS_60061509&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&28Adapter Type GeForce 6100, NVIDIA compatibleAdapter Description NVIDIA GeForce 6100Adapter RAM 256.00 MB (268,435,456 bytes)Installed Drivers nv4_disp.dllDriver Version 6.14.12.6099INF File oem6.inf (nv4_NV3x section)Color Planes 1Color Table Entries 4294967296Resolution 1024 x 768 x 60 hertzBits/Pixel 32Memory Address 0xFB000000-0xFBFFFFFFMemory Address 0xD0000000-0xDFFFFFFFMemory Address 0xFC000000-0xFCFFFFFFIRQ Channel IRQ 16I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003DFI/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DFMemory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFFDriver c:\windows\system32\drivers\nv4_mini.sys (6.14.12.6099, 9.18 MB (9,623,680 bytes), 12/5/2010 9:51 PM)
