No sound on vista client when remote desktopped into xp box
Hello,I'm able to successfully remote desktop into my work XP Pro machine from my hope vista machine. However, I don't hear any system sounds, despite the fact that I have "Bring to this computer" selected in the Remote computer sound option.Any ideas?Eric

Hi Eric, This behavior can be caused by the audio driver of the Windows Vista computer. I suggest that you upgrade the driver. Please download the driver from the computer manufacturer's website. Then follow the steps below to reinstall the driver. 1. Click Start, click Run, type in "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. In Device Manager, double click to expand the "Sound, video and Game controllers" branch. 3. Right click the entry of your audio device and click Uninstall to uninstall the driver. 4. Click Start, in the Start Search box type "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter. 5. Find the entry of the audio driver, and uninstall it. 6. Restart the computer. Please reinstall the new driver. If the issue still occurs, your audio device on the Windows Vista computer may be incompatible between Windows XP Terminal Service. In this situation, you may log on the Windows XP computer locally first, and then use Remote Desktop on other computers to connect to the Windows XP computer as a work around.

We're having the same problem. It started *after* we installed Vista's SP1 on a ThinkPad R61. Haven't tried updating the audio driver yet.

Hi Sean, Remove the driver first, then download the latest driver from your computer manufacturer's website and install it. If the audio still does not work, maybe the device does not work with Windows Vista SP1. If the manufacturer does not provide a compatible driver, you may remove SP1 temporary to make the audio work, and install it when the manufacturer release SP1-comaptible driver in future.
