No remote network connectivity to a Windows 7 PC
I have one Windows 7 client that I am unable to reach from the network. I can't ping it, UNC to it, or browse the network to it. DNS shows the correct IP for the machine, the Windows Firewall is off, I have tried to ping both by IP and name (the name resolves the correct IP), but nothing works. I have check the settings and there is nothing I can find that would prevent me from accessing it remotely. The domain is a windows 2003 domain with 2 DNS servers. I can access all other computers remotely on the LAN (about 50 XP and 23 Win 7). Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you, Dylan

What does the network look like between you and the PC? you may need to "Follow the path" and figure out which network device is dropping the traffic. -- Mike Burr Enterprise High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Planning Learn to Troubleshoot Windows BSODs

The computer I am trying to connect to is able to get to all network resources. We have a small LAN, only about 140 devices. There are other PC's on the same switch as this one and I can get to them remotely with no issues.

Have you tried any other strategies, such as - Check for an ACL that could be blocking the specific traffic on the incoming or outgoing port of the switch - Even though the firewall is off, create an allow any exception for udp and tcp and see if the ping succeeds - Use a sniffer along with SPAN or RSPAN (if it is a Cisco switch) and see if the ICMP traffic is even making it to the correct link on the switch - Look for duplicate IP addresses and overlapping subnets - Change switch port of the offending system(s) -- Mike Burr Enterprise High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Planning Learn to Troubleshoot Windows BSODs

Hi, Add to Mike Burr, please also check following, 1. Can the Windows 7 client ping its gateway successfully? Also, can your Network device ping the Client successfully? 2. Make sure this Windows 7 client is in the same VLAN with other Clients. 3. Please run netsh dump > c:\networkcfg.txt both in this Windows 7 client and a known working Windows 7 client, compare the two files and try to determine if the local Network settings are the same. Hope this helps. If a post solved your problem, click Mark as Answer on the post. If a post helped you, click "Vote As Helpful" on the left side of post.
