No longer able to share out a folder
I have Windows 7 Home Premium. When I bought the Dell machine last fall, about half a dozen folder shares were created. Now I am unable to create new folder shaRES .I right clickon the folder in explorer, Add user 'everybody. for Read access, then click share but get a message "Folder can't be shared'. Dell support tells me I must reinstall my OS, which would be an ordeal;and what if that doesn't work?

If you have a VM adapter disable that, heard it could be the answer Or if you hve recently installed an antivirus...try disabling that

Hello, Please see this thread about a similar problem: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/your-folder-cant-be-shared-error-in-win-7-home-64/500ef174-da97-441e-abc6-bfd079d37f7c See also that: http://blogs.digitaldeposit.net/saravana/post/2011/06/05/Your-folder-cant-be-shared-Windows-7.aspx For troubleshooting, you can consider disabling all security softwares you have as they may be the cause. I don't think I have a VM adapter, can only guess what that is. Tried the other suggestions to no avail. When I try to use Advanced Sharing though, I get a message "No more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"

make sure the RPC and RPC Locator services are running. Go to start -> run -> and type in services.msc You will see all the services now, scroll down to R and find the two services I mentions Remote Procedure Call and Remote Procedure Call Locator. Make sure both are running and set them to automatic. On mine I have RPC as automatic and RPC locator as manual. If they are running restart the services and then try the Advanced Sharing again

Thanks for all the advice folks. RPC could not be stopped (nor could RPC endpoint mapping); all I could do was refresh them. I could stop/start RPC Locator but still Advanced Sharing returns the "No more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper" message. Darn, I'd hate to have to rebuild my system drive and not fix this problem.

and you did turn the windows firewall all the way off? To make sure it is off....go to the services again and find the windows firewall service and make sure it has infact stopped... Sometimes it will say it is off if you turn it off but the service will still be running. then try again

I' have to first uninstall McAfee which gloms takes over the firewall. Not so sure I'm so crazy about that software.

Hi, May I know that this issue occurs only when the new created folder shares? What about the half a dozen folders you created before? You may turn off the firewall and antivirus, then check the issue again. You could share folders via running net share(without quotes) in command prompt with high privilege.
