No internet - DNS problem
Good day,
I have a machine with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Just recently, I lost any ability to get on to internet on that machine via wire or wireless.
I tried connecting at an airport, home, different cities, states, wired or wireless.
When opening Internet Explorer, all i get is : "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Other programs that rely on the internet, do not work. (weathereye, etc)
Meanwhile, other machines running windows XP along with my Ipod are accessing the net with no problems.
What I tried so far:
I ran spybot, malwarebytes, ccleaner programs thinking its the spyware - not the case
Defaulted IE settings, deleted cookies
Defaulted Firewall settings
I run no antivirus software
Tried Safemode with networking - same thing - no net
What I found peculiar is that even pinging say "google.ca" results in a message "Ping request could not find google.ca. Please check the name and try
again"
Yet, when I "nslookup google.ca" it resolves to IPs
I then can ping the IP but not the name
I can also use the IP to plug into Internet Explorer and that works, brings up google.ca
Ok, so i ipconfig /flushdns, /registerdns - no luck
I tried using 4.2.2.1 as my preferred primary DNS - no luck
Currently my IPv4/IPv6 settings are at “Obtain ....automatically”
As suggested on these forums I tried the following resets:
(netsh winsock reset) - no luck
(netsh int ip reset) - no luck
(netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted) - no luck
I only have wireless and local area connection adapters, no "wifi" virtual adapters.
I cannot restore to a previous state as that feature is disabled
I am at loss and really don’t want to re-load windows 7.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Hi,
Did this issue occur when you use cable to visit internet? If it works well with cable, it might the problem relate with your wireless card. Please try to reinstall
the driver for wireless card, or update it to the latest version. Also temporally disable IPV6.
And please confirm if any error appears when troubleshot problem from Network and Sharing Center.
Try delete Hosts file.

If the issue persists, and you cannot perform a system restore, you can try to repair your system by using installation disk:
1)
Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer.
2)
When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar.
3)
Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
4)
Click Repair your computer.
5)
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
6)
On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart
your computer as it makes repairs.
