No client side caching of Redirected Folders
I have Win 7 machines with Roaming Profiles and Redirected Folders managed via RSAT against a 2003 R2 box. The profiles cache fine, but the Redirected Folders do not cache at all. The do not automatically make redirected folders available offline policy is set @ not configured. Furthermore, specifically setting the folders as administratively assigned offline folders also does nothing. ACLs for both the UserProfile folder and UserFolders are identical. Share Permissions are also identical. What could be causing the redirected folders not to cache.

You can set caching at a share level, see "Caching" settings on the share. It could also be insufficient permissions on the folder/share, try to make a folder or file available offline manually by right clicking it and choose "Always available offline". Does that work or give you an error message?Blogging about Windows for IT pros at www.theexperienceblog.com

The caching is set at the share level to "On Demand" and the user's redirected folder set (same AppDat, Documents, Music, etc.) can be manually set to to be available offline. This works, but when actually offline, the user has to actually navigate to the share via explorer since clicking on the desktop or opening up the start menu Documents link fails. In other words named system folders fail, but when actually navigating via the manually set share the Desktop, Documents, etc. are fully functional in explorer view. To ReCap: caching works for the profile automatically caching works for the redirected folders if done manually (although they cannot be acccessed via named system folder shortcuts) automatic caching of the redirected folders fails without any errors logged anywhere I look. forced caching of same folders via administrative assignment also fails again without any errors logged anywhere I look.
