In order to connect to the Internet, you need to obtain an IP Address, and at this point you don't have one. Do you have a Wireless Access Point (or Wireless Router) at your house? If so, it looks like this machine isn't configured to connect to it.

Try connecting to the net directly through the modem for the time being, if it work and you got the IP then you should know the problem lies on where

Hi, As Daniel is mentioned, please bypass the router and connect to DSL modem directly via wired cable to verify whether Internet can be accessed. If not, please let us know. Otherwise, we can consider the issue is caused by incorrect router settings. Please access the link below and download the User Guider to configure the router. Meanwhile, please also contact the manufacturer support for further assistance. User Guide Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. I am having same problem with the LAN adapter on a Toshiba Satellite upgraded from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 just last night. This 169.254.XXX.XXX IP is showing on my LAN adapter. I entered cmd as administrator (shift/ctrl/enter) and cannot release nor renew to clear this IP. I connected directly to the DSL modem without success. I cannot even enter my router setup. My router settings are correct as they worked last night on Vista and work on XP today. I tried disabling the adapter, enabling the adapter, repairing the connection, resetting the IP. Still this 169.154.xxx.xxx IP is hung and I cannot access anything through the LAN adapter, including the router.

All of you need to check to make sure there is not an IP address conflict on the system, the addresses canot be shared, it don't work.
