No access to the internet using windows 7 IP Address is blank
I am working on a laptop for a client. The IP address is blank. when I use command window and type ipconfig /all I get the following HOST NAME............ : Name changed. Primary Dns Suffix....: Node Type................: Hybrid IP Routing Enabled.....: No Wins Proxy Enabled....: No I ahve had a similar problem before with Windows XP and have found that resetting the Winsock and IP stack has fixed it. However this laptop is running windows7 Home OEM and the Winsock and IP reset has made no difference. I don't know if it is related but while searching for solutions I found a recommendation to check the network adapters using msinfo32, when I tried to do that I got an error "cannot access the Windows management Instrumentation Software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing". ANy assistance would be greatly received as I am almost at the point of having to do a clean install. Thanks in anticipation Keith Buckle Keith Buckle KGB Computer Services

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. For the masifo32 issue, it could be related to some services, please check the status of following services, ensure they are all enabled: · Event Log · Windows Management Instrumentation · Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Meanwhile, you could run SFC command to fix the missing system files: 1. Click start ->All Programs ->Accessories. Right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator. 2. Type "SFC /Scannow" (without quotation marks) in the "Open" box, and click "OK". Regarding your networking issue, I would like to confirm whether you could not get the information of network adapter via IPconfig /all command. How do you connect to Internet, wired or wireless? I suggest you check your network adapter in Device Management. Hope it helps. Alex Zhao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Adding on alex advice, ensure there's no exclamation mark on the network adapter under device manager. Or else you would need to install or update the drivers. Btw care to share how you access the net? Is it through a router? If is through a router, did you ensure the ssid & passphrase are the same for both router setting as well as the wireless setting on the laptop itself? Lastly are you able to access the net with a lan cable through the laptop?

The services are running, I am currently running the SFC scan, The network adapters are installed and running as far as device manager is concerned however checking IP by any methos I know reports as blank. I have tried both Wireless and wired connections and both report the same. I am currently running on my own network which is giving the same results as the clients, (and my computers are all still running on the network, some wired and some wireless). This is the reason the client called on me. As I said earlier I have seen the same problem on Windows XP machines, I beleive it is the result of a malware attack, resetting the Winsock and TCPIP normally fixes the problem on XP but has no apparent effect on Windows 7. SFC scan reports no violations. IPconfig /all reports c:\win dows\system32> ipconfig /all Host name ............................:xxpc Primary DNS Suffix .................: Node type .............................: Hybrid IP Routing Enabled ................: No Wins Proxy Enabled ...............: No c:\windows\system32> Keith BuckleKeith Buckle KGB Computer Services

Well I have solved this one, the problem came down to Zone Alarm firewall, I have had similar problems some time ago, again with Windows XP, although it did not block the IP just prevented access to the Internet. In this case it was a trial and error diagnosis before doing a clean install. I looked at what software was installed and decided to uninstall anything possibly related. As soon as I uninstalled Zone Alarm it began giving me network notices. Thanks again for your suggestions Keith Buckle KGB Computer Services
