No access to certain websites and battle.net
Hello, I purchase a Dell desktop with Vista Home loaded approximately 4 months ago and everything was running perfect. I recently noticed since last week that I can no longer connect to battle.net (Warcraft 3) and can't seem to access the battle.net website. In addition, I can no longer access certain websites that I used to be able to access ( Fandango.com and Movies.com).It gives me an error page, what you would get if you were not connected to the internet.Internet connect is running perfectly fine and I can still access practically all other websites aside from these three. I have an older laptop with Windows XP loaded and it can access the battle.net servers fine and all the websites i mentioned without a problem. After searching the internet forums for a week, and trying various solutions I have still yet to find the solution. Please note that the problem exists for not only IE but Mozilla Firefox as well on this desktop. I am running Windows Vista with Intel Q6600 quad core with 4 gigs of ram These are the solutions I have tried: The windows diagnostic tool on the error webpage. Disabling my firewall( Windows Firewall)/ Changing the settings to put them in the exceptions tab Powercycling my router/ computer I have access to two ISP's (Roadrunner and Verizon Fios) and I have confirmed via switching between both of them that the ISP is not the problem, also considering my laptop uses the same ISP's and can connect with no problem. Reseting Winsock via the netsh winsock reset command on the command prompt Battle.net forums suggested uninstalled and reinstalling the Warcraft 3program, but considering certain websites are not available, including battle.net website, this solution seemed to be futile Setting a static IP address Running various antivirus, malware remover programs (All which come up with nothing) System Restore to an earlier date in time when everything was working (Still did not fix the problem) Then I went into windows update and updated everything which didn't work either Swearing at the computer (Which made me feel better but didn't really solve anything) The thing that really boggles my mind the most is that the game and these websites were working a mere 2 weeks ago and now are not working. Systemrestore doesnt fix the problem. My laptop which uses the same internet conn accesses them all just fine. Please help, I'm at wit's end. Thanks in advance, Joseph

Hi, This might sound silly but can you trying logging in as a different user and trying the same? It could be the user profile that could be corrupted. Also trying booting into safe mode with networking and seeing if you can access these sites (also try safe mode with alternate user). Also have you tried internet connection sharing where you setup your older laptop and have that as the gateway and have the problem computer go online through its shared network access?

Thanks for your response. Actually, yesterday i was so frustrated that I formated everything and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows vista, being the only copy of windows that I own, but the problem still exists. I'd assume from the fresh install that it rules out the user profile being corrupted possibility. I'm going to try the safe mode with networking tonight and see if it would work. I have yet to try the shared internet connection with the older laptop as the gateway, but why do you think it would solve the problem?

If you are using the other machine as a gateway, you are avoiding direct interaction with the router and if there is something in the router which causes it to say "okie its machine x do not let it access what so ever" (sounds like a far fetched idea ) but just to rule out any special interaction between the vista/problematic machine with the router. Since you said that you formatted the machine and tried it and still doesnt work, do you have access to a wireless usb card or another network card that you could try so that the request is not coming from the network card with that specific mac address?

That's a good suggestion, I'm going to purchase a vista compatible wireless usb card and see if that could solve the problem.i guess worse comes to worse, if nothing happens i'll just return it. Let me get back to you once i try it out tonight.

I'M HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE !!!! I have 6 computers NAT networked. Only one of the PC's (Vista UltimateSP1) cannot get to www.southwest.com or www.iflyswa.com . I'm using IE8, but it isn't browser related as Firefox and Safari cannot get there, nor does trying to telnet via port 80 work either. All the other PC's (mix of OS's) can get there OK. I've tried most of the suggestions above and I get no results either. I'm not really losing a lot of sleep over it, but I'd sure like to know what is going on ...

After re-formating my computer, access to those sites have returned. I was hoping that someone had a solution for this problem because re-formating your computer every time you don't have access to certain websites is not exactly a whole lot of fun.

Nope. Every PC on my LAN (wired and wireless can access southwest.com except the PC I'm posting this on. It's not enough of an issue to me to troubleshoot, but was hoping someone had an easy answer ....

Just wanted to give you guys an update. After reformatting, the issue has not occured. Also I just wanted to mention something, that originally started with one website, and it slowly spread to other websites too. Pretty soon I was unable to connect to over half my frequented websites. I'm just crossing my fingers that it's not going to happen again.

I was delighted to find this solution since it addressed the issue I am having. I tried this text at the command prompt and got the "folloiwing command was not found". Is there something I do not understand?

not sure whether there is something that was misunderstood. Might be helpful to see a description of the steps taken and a screen print of the outcome.Regards,Greg

I went to run and then cmd to get to Dos prompt. That is where I got the error. I also entered this command directly into the run command and the screen just cycled with no indication that I did anything useful. I continue to have the problem so either your fix did not work for me or I did not do it correctly. My problem: I enter a URL in both IE and Firefox and get notification that system cannot find the site. I enter the URL into IE on my desktop that is connected to the same router etc and the site comes up. Is this what you experienced. By the way, I can find common sites like Yahoo with no issues.I appreciate your responding but this may be a real mess that will take a huge amount of time and I cannot ask for that level

Are you running as an "administrator"? Be sure you right click the cmd shortcut and select "Run as administrator".Regards,Greg

Hi "glr". If you are still reviewing this, I have the same problem as the others on this thread. I am not that knowledgeable about technical computer stuff, but can tell you that my PC runs Windows XP Home SP2, and I have both IE7 and Firefox as browsers. In the last few days, I started experiencing the problem that I cannot get access to some websites that I have always been able to visit. I can get on many other websites without a probkem. Other PCs in our network do not have this problem, and even my PC has this problem sporadically. Also, on these problem websites, sometimes I can get into their home page, but end up being blocked from other parts of the site. I have ran Norton Antivirus scan and Windows Defender, and nothing was detected. I have this problem both on IE7 and Firefox. Regarding your suggested solution of "Disable ECN", what does that refer to? I went on the "Run" command and entered the command string that you suggested, but still have the website inaccessibility problem. Just what is causing this issue? When I have checked other forums about this problem, it seems like people are suggesting numerous different suggestions to fix this. Please help.

Sorry for the delay. The key is to run CMD as administrator which you invoke by right clicking the Command Prompt command. Are you running on Vista?

Hello, After i updated windows 7 to windows 7 service pack 1, i'm facing problem of connection to few websites which were working fine before installation of SP1. I tried all possible ways to solve this problem. I tried uninstalling SP1 but it gives me following error: Installer encountered an error:0x80073712 The component store has been corrupted. I dont understand what should i try to solve this problem. Unfortunately there is no restore point before update to SP1. Please help me with this problem. I'm able to connect with few other sites but some sites which are important to me as i work on that i'm not able to do so. I dont want to do system restore to factory settings which is last option.
