No Such Interface Found
Hi Guys,I have WIndows 7 64bit running on HP xw6400,When I right the desk top and click personalise or adjust screen resolution I get dialogue stating the following:No Such Interface foundI can open the personalise settings from control panel.I have tried re registering the DLLs a la joejoes' article, but I still get the errors.I have also put it into safe mode to see if I still get the same error and I do. So it's heppening for all user as safe mode uses a different user.I have also tried uninstalling the last 2 recent programs (including registry remenance), however still same issue.I can live with these issues provided:a) This is not a virusb) There is anothewr way to open the screen res settingsI would consider an inplace upgrade if this is the only option, however, this seems extreme Can anyone help with this please?

Please don't use "registry fixers", they almost always (and will be always if you continue using them) cause more problems then its worth (which was probably free wasn't it?) I've haven't used anything like that in many years and have not had any problems that couldn't be fixed using regedit (which is rare) or other methods such as a quality AV (not free that also scans for malware). How long has this issue been going on? Have you been performing any backups to external media or a separate drive partition because I believe you need to scan your system for viruses/malware and ultimately you'll probably end up doing a repair/restore to a date prior to your problems. Back up your data now (just documents - files that you need). An upgrade - to what? HI cdobbsThanks for the reply,No, I don't resgistry cleaners. I cleaned the registry myself mwith regiedit as I have a little experience in these things.I don't use system restore either for the reasons.1) Viruses love to hang out there2) Our enterprise GP switches it off presumably for the same reason as 1.I don't how long this has been going on. Like I said I have uninstalled the last 2 apps installed. Before this there was no issue, however, I cannot be accurate in terms of timelines as I haven't installed an app for at least 2 months before these last 2 and I know I did'nt have the issue 2 months ago.Upgrade is the new method similar to boot time repair on XP. I don't like it but it seems to be the only way according some other technet articles of a similar ilk.We have enterprise level AV by McAfee which includes malware engine. We are hooked directly into McAfee USA which is why I am relectant to believe it's a virus. We also have ID solutions running on our class b network. I have chacked the logs and all suspected were deleted on the last scan.I can open personalisation setting from control panel, I can open display settings from control panel, however, I cannot open 'Adjust Resolution' from there.Regards

Hi McSafe, Does the issue occur after disabling McAfee? Since the issue persists in Safe Mode, it is possible certain system files are damaged. You can try check the system files by the steps below and see if the issue can be resolved: 1. Insert the Windows 7 installation DVD into the DVD-ROM; Click Exit if the auto-menu pops up. 2. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. 3. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow If the issue persists, I recommend you perform an In-place Upgrade of Windows 7. Regarding In-place Upgrade, it is a tool to repair the system. Through the special upgrade process, we will be able to repair the system. The In-place Upgrade will not affect settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer. However, it is recommended to first backup your important information and files to other partitions or other disks. We can have a try to see if the issue works. Turn off Windows features before performing an In-place Upgrade ========================================= 1. Click Start, and click Control Panel. 2. Click Classic View on the left pane, and double click Program and Features. 3. Click "Turn Windows features on or off on the left" pane. 4. In the Windows Features dialog box, uncheck all of the check boxes, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. If the Windows 7 DVD is not available, please just run setup.exe file in the Windows 7 installation package to perform the following steps. 1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 2. Click Start and choose Computer. 3. Please find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double click it. 4. Click Install now. 5. When we are prompted to input the product key, please click Next without inputting any key. The setup wizard will prompt and ask if you agree to install Windows 7 without the key. Please choose to confirm. 6. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows 7. Note: While performing the In-place Upgrade, the system will restart automatically (several times) to merge the files and programs. Please leave the computer alone and do not configure it until In-place Upgrade is completed. The system will start Windows 7 once it is upgraded.
