No Program to Support Opening .dbx files copied to CD ROM for Archive
I used the Microsoft instructions to copy Outlook Express files to a CD ROM for archive purposes. When I try to open the files from the CD my system automatically selects Picture It! to open the files. This program does not recognize .dbx files. I try to use the Browse option to use Outlook Express to open the files and I can't figure out how to have it point to the D: drive to find the files I want to open. Thanks in advance for any help someone can offer.

The files will not open from your CD because they were set READ ONLY when you placed them there and Outlook Express cannot use and will not even acknowlege READ ONLY files. These files need to be returned to your hard drive and reset to READ/WRITE. Is this "restore" machine an XP system that has Outlook Express installed?Hal--Hal Hostetler, CPBESenior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGXwww.kvoa.com -- KVOA Television, Tucson, AZ.Live at Hot Licks - www.badnewsbluesband.com

You can import an individual dbx file as indicated here: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 Otherwise, as Hal indicated, you have to copy all the dbx files to the hard drive in a single directory that contains folders.dbx. Then in OE go to File | Import | Messages and point to that directory to get the messages into the local store. OE cannot read dbx files that are uncoupled from the local folders.dbx file, so you have to manually import them, or you can extract the messages (seewww.oehelp.com/DBXpress/). steve <Russ Gugino> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I used the Microsoft instructions to copy Outlook Express files to a CD ROM for archive purposes.
