No Network access on windows 7 machine
Both my windows seven machines are connected through a d-link switch. They were connecting and sharing with each other just fine until yesterday i turned on one of the machines and it had no network access. i checked the share settings and everything is on on both computers, but the one still can not connect. i tried a static ip but still nothing. haven't tried pinging yet but is there anything that could cause this?

You state "connected through a d-link switch" so you do not have a router???You need to post a IPCONFIG /all here from both PC's

Yes, try ping and also check ipconfig to see if an IP address is still assigned. However I have found initially that even though an IP address may be assigned, Windows 7 will turn off power to the nic's for power saving. Have you disabled power saving on both the wired/wireless nic's? Have you restarted your DLink yet? Which Dlink do you have? Have you got the latest firmware on the Dlink? I wouldn't at this point go with a static IP since you want to know what is causing the network interruption. Have you run the troubleshooter on the NIC yet? How long did the sharing last when you enabled it? Have you installed any firewalls? Do you have Norton and if so what version (anything below 2010 is not compatible). Have you disabled your firewalls and tried pinging (might have to reset the nic to refresh IP connection). Let us know oh and do post what Bubba suggested.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi, Can the other machine access Internet fine or both of them cannot access Internet? Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Bypass the Switcher and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Can Internet be accessed now? If not, this issue may be caused by ISP. Otherwise, the issue can occur by Switcher or incorrect network settings. 2. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has). 3. Upgrade the NIC driver. 4. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. 5. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically ======================================= a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. If the issue persists, please run "Ipconfig /all" in command mode and post the result here. Thanks, Novak

Adding on other advise, one thing that comes to mind is at time the cable to the port of the switch might accidentally be loosen, kindly check that's not the case as well as the leds of the switch is on. You might wanna try repluging the cable or swap to another port of the switch or try changing the ethernet cable
