I've posted another message in this forum, thinking that my problem might have something to do with my hardware (nforce4 topic). It may have nothing to do with my hardware. Here's some information about my setup & what I've tried so far: I've got a cable connection with a Netgear wireless router Connection from my computer to the router is via cat5 (i.e. not wireless) Vista is setup to detect network settings automatically (i.e. DNS, et cet) My problem is that I can't ping anything at all. I get error 1231or something like that from the command prompt when pinging anywhere. There appears to be no connection whatsoever to the router or any site outside. What I've tried: Allowed Vista to try re-setting the network card Allowed Vista to try fixing the connection Rebooted the cable modem & the computer Connected the cable modem directly to the computer (i.e. no router) I noticed you can setup a connection but the only option you have is a "PPPoE" connection where a username & password are required. My cable connection does not require a username or password. Is there another option, other than PPPoE where a username & password are not required? Here's a summary of my hardware in case it matters: . AMD 3800+ X2 processor- Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI MB (nforce4 SLI chipset) - Realtek ALC850 Audio AC'97 Codec - T.I. This problem was solved by changing DNS settings to use my router as the gateway / DNS server. So, assuming the router IP is "192.168.0.1", I used the following: IP address: 192.168.0.xxgateway: 192.168.0.1subnet mask: 255.255.255.0DNS server: 192.168.0.1
