No Internet Connection with DSL Modem and Router
Last week, we started having problems with internet connectivity (DSL modem connected to LAN via a Netgear WGT624 router and Vista Home Premium; ISP is ATT). Usually, power-cycling everything to reinitialize the network would restore connectivity for a few hours, but it would drop again. Prior to that, set up worked flawlessly for many, many months. I replaced the DSL modem over the weekend with a Motorola 2210. Now, I can only connect to internet when modem is connected directly to my computer. Every time I try to connect to router as before, I lose the connection. Router can see all other computers on LAN, but no internet. I reset modem, reset router, and after reading some posts here, I unchecked IPv6. No luck. Every time I try to connect via router as it was set up last week, no connection. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious that I'm missing here... ipconfig as follows: Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : ABS Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller #2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-18-F3-4D-9D-D2 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, September 17, 2008 7:11:01 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, September 18, 2008 7:11:01 AM Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-18-F3-4C-F1-C9 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 6: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : isatap.{D9404DD2-AF27-4A44-93F6-610D27CF2025} Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 7: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : isatap.{03A8AA66-475B-4D6C-9126-65F271842869} Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 10: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 02-00-54-55-4E-01 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

You are missing something obvious (kinda): the 'modem' that you bought is actually a Gateway (basically, a modem with 'lite' router functionality.)The 'right' way to fix things is to put the modem in Bridge mode (unfortunately, the manual fails to say how to do that), so that your router can handle the connection (basically, demoting the modem to a simple modem.)One question, though: with the router connected to the new modem, all of your PCs fail to get internet access, yes? Or, is it just one of them? If the former, see the first part of this post. If, however, it's just one, could you also post the output of ipconfig /all from a working PC?

Thanks cuppie, that did the trick. I Googled "Motorola 2210 and Netgear" (probably should have tried that first before making a complete [insert 3-letter synonym for "donkey"] of myself on the Microsoft forum, but what the heck) and found step-by-step instructions here: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/bellsouth/3.17_Netgear_Info Thanks again for the quick reply! Cheers-
