No Internet Connection when Public network is detected
I have a double problem. 1. If the network is recognised as unindentified cannot be changed to home or work (is a read only condition) 2. If the network is unindentified internet connection isn't available. The network which i'm connected is WEP secured and is private...Network connection is excelent If this problem persists i cannot use any free access point so is useless to have a laptop with Windows 7. Additional info: I've checked the adapter configuration to obtain automatic IP address, I've tried also with manualy setting IP..., I used restore point, I've turned off windows firewall as well as AVG antivirus, I've deleted all wireless networks and set up them once again, I've tried to connected via cable... My router is setup with WEP and I've assigned the MAC address of my lap to the permitted PÇs...

Hi again, looking in forums I've seen that setting the router's firewall in disable has solved both problems!! That means I have Internet Access and I can select type of network. I think that this is a workaround and isn't a real solution. (As I can do this only to mine router and not any public router...) So please if someone has a better solution please inform me and the other users.

Some additional informations: The problem is the same in wireless and wired connection On the same modem / router are connected one desktop (OS Windows XP) and one laptop (OS Windows Vista). Both in wireless connection and run without any problem.

Hi, Perhaps, this is caused by wonky router firmware, so try to update the router firmware. Also, I suggest to contact the manufacturer for better help. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Juke, sorry for the late answer. The router firmware is updated and the manufacturer (is also the provider) doesn't have any records of such incident

Hi, Please also try the following steps. 1. Manually assign a static IP address and DNS address on the machine for a test. 2. Modify the relevant security settings. a. Type "gpedit.msc" in Start menu, right click it and click "Run as administrator". b. Open Computer configuration -->Windows Settings -->Security Settings -->select Network list manager policies on the right Side you will see options for : Double click -->Unidentified networks Then you can select the option to consider the Unidentified networks as private and if user can change the location. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, Can you ping a website when you performed step1? I guess you were using Windows 7 home and Group Policy is not available in Windows 7 Home Edition. The other problem is that you forget to type the .msc extension. Windows 7 cannot find gpedit unless you append the .msc file extension.
