No Internet Connection But Connected to Router
Hi hoping to get some help with my laptop. I have an HP i7 Laptop running Win 7 Ultimate. While at work I used to be able to connect to the wireless router (there's no pw - it's open network) and use the net. Here lately, it will connect but say there's no internet connection. I have checked the properties of the ip4 connection and it all appears to be correct. I have run the scnnow command in the cmd prompt, and it comes back with no errors. I am thinking I need to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter maybe? I can connect at home fine with no problems, but at work it either gives me the windows cannot connect message or connects but has no internet at all. I have to believe that the problem is on my laptops end, because I can connect to the network w/ my phone and it seems to be ok. I can only post about this at home, so I can't exactly copy/paste the ipconfig/all results here...I should have just saved the picture last night at work and uploaded it today, but hindsight is 20/20... I do not have access to the router so I can not do anything on that end either...and I will try and uninstall and reinstall the network adapter when I get back to work tonight, as I can connect fine at home, so no point doing it now. I have uploaded my nfo info to the skydrive but new to this so not sure how to share it... Thanks for any and all help, w/o net at work, work sucks. lol...please let me know what else I can provide to help find the solution to this annoying problem! http://cid-4f9d5e4c223e1829.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents/MMcKimNFO.zip

It's not your network card since it works at other locations. It's the router. Find someone with physical access to it and have them reset it (unplug the power, wait a couple of seconds and plug it back in.)

I am able to connect to the router (both of them) with my iphone with no issues. However with my laptop I am no longer able to.

See, now you didn't say that in your original post. But by that same logic it's not your network card either since it can connect to other networks without issue. Strange but true story - yesterday, just before I replied to your post one of our customers was having issues connecting to our open access point. It would show connected but wouldn't receive an IP address and said it was an Unidentified Network. The odd thing was my Android phone could connect fine, browse the Internet, etc... So I basically threw up my hands in disgust, told the user that he had an issue with his network configuration (which he denied because it had been working fine at the hotel earlier in the morning.) Since I had to walk past the closet the router was in on the way back to my office I stopped, unplugged the router and plugged it back in then went on my way. Five minutes later the user appears at my door saying "I don't know what you did, but it's working now. Thanks."

Weird...I did say that my phone connected to it fine in my original post though :P I have to think it's a Win 7 issue and perhaps a malware or something of the sorts as well...I've done a lot of searching on the net for this same problem and Win 7 users appear to have it a lot...I'll try and post more info from work tonight, like my ipconfig/all pic...I am trying to remember too if this problem is new to my Win 7 Ultimate install, or if it was there before when I just had Win 7 home x32, I can't remember lol... I work nights too so no access to any of the routers, and I'm never there during the day, and when I looked in the main office where I think it was last time (can't get in there now it's locked up) there are like 10 different routers, not sure what that's about lol...

Redirect the output from IPCONFIG /ALL to a text file, then you can post it later without having to use a screenshot: IPCONFIG /ALL > C:\IPCONF.TXT Note there's a space before and after the >. Also, it will store the file in the root of the drive.

I was able to connect to the router and actually had internet access for about 20 minutes, then it just went away again. I was able to get into the office and reset the router, that made no difference. But I can connect to the same router with my iphone and have internet...so it has to be something with my laptop right? My sys info is in the original post, and here's the ipconfig screen shot: http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9255/capturerf.png

You can check the issue that you have for your router not getting connected to the Internet. You could check if it is a configuration issue or a Internet Service Provider issues. If you have a configuration issue, you would need to configure your router. IF you are not connected to the Internet or if you have any issues with your ISP, you can contact your ISP to get the issues fixed.Email Spam Blocker
