No Internet Access, IP=169.254.*, Fixed by setting Network Addresss
Hi,I had a wireless networking problem with Windows 7 that stopped both my desktop (DLink DWL-G520) and laptop (Atheros AR5005G)(both using RC 7100) from getting an IP address from my Netgear DG834GT router, on boot it would supposedly connect to the router wirelessly, but it would state 'No Internet Access', and when checking the IP Addresses of my WLAN card it showed the169.254.* range. One way I found how to fix this was to specify static IP addresses for my PC's and then it would work OK, I have seen searching through on the net and foundthat quite a few people have had similiar issues, and corrected it by setting a static address. The drivers I am using on both cards are the standard ones that have either installed with Windows 7 or through Automatic Updates. The way I eventually fixed my problem was to manually set the Network Address in the (Device Manager/*wireless card*/right-click and select Properties)Advanced tab of my Wireless card properties, from 'Not Present' to the correct MAC for my card, obtained by doing 'ipconfig /all' at the command prompt. By making this change I have been able to turn back on the 'obtain IP address automatically', and my internet/network connection still works! It would be interesting, as I had this problem on two PC's with different hardware, if there are still people out there with this issue and if it works for them. I have never had to do this with XP or Vista.
