Newest patch causes system failure and cannot startup
Installed Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 6000. All was working fine except the wireless connection problem that's been noted by others. Installed the latest patch on 3/20/09. With multiple webpages open, the system froze and had to force shutdown. Tried to restart and failed. Started again and system went into System Repair and came back with message that lastest patch is causing system failure and cannot start up. Any others with this sort of problem? Any solutions? Cannot System Restore (no history).

As for your system restore problem, make sure you have adequate space allotted. Go to system properties and click on Advanced system settings in blue area to the left. Click on the System Protection tab. Select the drive where Windows 7 is installed and click the Configure button. Allocate between 5 and 10% of available disk space. Once you are done, manually create a restore point.

Creating a restore point after the crash will not solve the problem.have you tried loging into save mode? have you tried disabling your wireless network manually and try to start the laptop? have you tried to repaire the windows from within the installation dvd you have? if you will get a option of upgrade windows then its a more option in the hand.

My computer (Dell E521) also locks-up everyother time I use it.I guess it is too old for windows 7.We bought this computer a year ago.I would like to send a report to someone, but I am not sure who.I did restore one time. The updates do not seem to have much effect.I don't think this is stable enough to use for anything important

chavelita,No, your computer is not too old by any means. When you loaded Windows 7, did you do an upgrade or a clean install?

My 3 yr old, home brewed Athlon 64 based box with 1 GB of RAM would heartily disagree with your assessment. Seriously...
