New router fails to find home group
Windows 7 makes setting up a home group as easy as falling off a log. I set up a home group for my desktop connected by wire to a Linksys type G router, and my laptop connected wirelessly with its internal wireless adaptor. Everything worked fine until I decided to move my desktop away from my cable modem and Linksys router. I decided to take advantage of the extra speed offered by a type N router, so I purchased a Belkin F9K1002v1 router and a Belkin Model F7D1101v1 adaptor. Internet access is great from both computers. Windows 7 draws an accurate map of my network and show the IP and MAC addresses of both computers as well as the router. The Norton security map shows each computer connected securely to my LAN. THE PROBLEM IS - neither computer can recognize the home group that was working with my old Linksys type G router. (I did not leave the home group on either computer before changing routers.) Now each cpu offers to set up a home group, but neither can recognize the home group set up by the other. The time on each computer is synchronized within a few seconds of the other as suggested by some online advice.

Hi, Please try the following steps to leave Home Group to check if you can join the new Home Group: 1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. In the popup window, type the following commands and press Enter one by one: Net stop p2pimsvc 3. Access the following folder and clear all files inside: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking 4. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. Net start p2pimsvc Then, please recreate HomeGroup to see how it works: Create a homegroup Alex ZhaoPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
