New Users Active Directory-When they log on the computer, how to sign on as Power User?
Simple words. I want to create a user on Active Directory, sign on a computer for the first time and be a Power User rather than a regular Users. How can I get this rolling? The reason why I have file shares enables with certain folders but when you log in for the first time it signs on as Users and don't show the file shares or have the option to enable. When I change it to a Power Users it shows the file share option and folder being shared. Thanks much appreciated.

You would need to set group membership on the server for those particular users.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

thanks for the reply. Now i've read through all the articles and blogs about this particular question and everyone received the same answer. Now when you say Group Membershio, people say to use Restricted Group under GPO, I added the group put member of Power Users and it didn't work. Now if there is a better article that you can pass on or have a detailed procedure on how that'll be appreciated.

Everything I've ever read says not to use the Power Users group. Instead, if you have shares you only want certain people to be able to access, you should be creating an Organizational Unit and a new group and assigning permissions to those shares to those people only. You can read about using OUs on TechNet. Another great resource is http://www.petri.co.il/ . Further questions about setting up AD, OUs, etc. should be asked in the forum for whatever server OS you're running here:TechNet forums - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/categories/ MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
