New User accounts not able to log on.
Hello. I am running Windows XP Pro SP 3 and using Symantec's Norton Internet Security, version 17.7.0.12 and ran into a problem when I created a new user account for my daughter. I want her to have a limited account that she can use as she likes. I logged on to the Administrator account on the PC and created a new "limited" type account named Erica. I did not set a password for the account. When she logged in, the account began to setup. It displayed the a message about creating personal settings and when through several parts but stopped when it started creating personal settings for Windows Media Player 11. The only thing I could do was press the restart switch. After restarting the machine and logging into the Administrator account I did see that the usual profile subdirectories and files were present under C:\Documents and settings\Erica so I tried to login again with the same results as above. Hung up while creating personal settings for Windows Media 11. After restarting the system and logging into the Administrator account I created another account and when I went to logon with it I got the same results as the one called Erica. Hung up again at the point of creating personal settings for Windows Media Player 11. Now I saw a pattern so... After restarting the system and logging into the Administrator account I thought that perhaps Windows Media Player 11 was corrupted so I tried to uninstall it but the system would not uninstall it. Then I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player 11 again. After all I thought what's the worst that could happen, just tell me it was already installed and stop... Well that didn't happen. The system attempted to install Windows Media Player 11 and got through the runtime piece but hung up halfway through installing the Player piece. The little indicator bar stayed at 50% over all and just kept advancing the bottom program file indicator halfway across the bar then back to the left and halfway across the bar. After 30 minutes of this I used the task manager to abort the install, which completely destroyed Windows Media Player 11 much the chagrin of the wife and daughter. So I used Norton Go Back to restore system back to the begging of the day and got the Media player working again. However the new accounts are still not getting past the creating personal settings for Windows Media Player 11. At this point I even tried to use the Windows Fix-it automated system, but I could not get past the Windows Powershell software install. This does about the same thing as the Windows Media Player software install, just begins the install and stops. What can I do to get the account system working again? Thanks in advance.1 person needs an answerI do too
