New IE8 Issue
I've run into a new issue with IE8. After installing Office/Windows Live software late last week, I began experiencing frequent"freezes" on my laptop. To make a long story short, I removed all theOffice/Windows Live software, but now I am unable to any link in IE8 which calls for opening in a new tab or window.Links will only function within the current tab. Ifa link attempts to open in a new window or a new tab, I end up with the new IE tab or window, but nothing ever loads. Nothing displays in the address bar, and no errror message ever appears.I have disabled AV, all IE plug-ins, and all IE accelerators. I still cannot get links to load.If I copy the shortcut and paste it into the address bar, the page will load. For whatever reason, it is acting as if the browser will not pass the link to the new tab or window instance.

Have to you tried resetting Internet Explorer? If you haven't then try to do that:Open IE, click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab and click the "Reset" button. Click ok to acknolwedge any windows that might prompt you to continue. Close IE then re open and see if that helps.IF you have already tried that..then..i think im out of ideas for now lol sorry. But ill try to think of more.

Hi jcw11560, I cannot reproduce the problem on my side. I am using Office 2007 and Windows Live Essentials. If possible, could you please let me know your Office and Live version? Thanks.

Robinson,I'm running Office 2007. At the time I began experiencing the freezes, I believe I was running the latest versions of Windows Live Essentials. I only had them installed for a day or two, and I believe the subsequent IE8 issue I reported here was caused more by my removal of Live Essentials, not by the presence of Live Essentials. IE8 was still working normally while I had Live installed. As an aside, I believe the freezes I experienced following the Live Essentials install may very well be an issue with my Dell laptop (Latitude e4300). I've experienced the same kind of "freezing" with this laptop previously under Vista. The laptop has actually been experiencing this behavior much less frequently since I loaded the Win7 beta. Finally, with regard to the original IE8 issue I reported above - I did manage to solve the problem by doing a system restore back to a point prior to installing Live Essentials. Everything is working fine once again. The system restore worked well.John

I did not try hitting the reset button, but I did try deleting all files and cookies. I also reset all IE 8 security settings to default. None of this solved the problem, but with a system restore I did manage to get IE8 working normally again.

Disabled accelerators, reset internet options to default, re-registered actxprxy.dll, wiped harddrive and reinstalled win7, all to no avail. What I have found is changing the state of the security settings ( Internet / Protected Mode ) at the bottom of the pagefrom (on to off or off to on depending on the state) will let a link or tab work in that window, but any windows or tabs opened from that window won't respond (foreverconnecting). The major difference between this computer and the other ones I've tried 7 on (which work fine) is the small amount of video memory (it won't run Aero).Any ideas?

Did anyone ever find an answer to this one? There seem to have been many problems, but no real solution. I have recently upgraded a computer from Vista (a mistake) to Windows 7 (bigger mistake) and have encounter two possibly related issues: 1. IE8 will not open links in new windows or new tabs -- as Jersey7 reported, contanty "connecting..." 2. Windows Explorer opens folder in a new window ALWAYS... regardless of setting, regardless of registry hacks, etc. Right Click/Open works normally... double click ALWAYS opens a new window... what a pain!!! Sorry to open an old wound, but I hope someone finally found an answer...
