New Build, 5th and final Win 7 64 bit install (Updates and BSOD's) Jan 2011
Hello there, Here's the rig Gigabyte 890GPA UD3H Corsair 8G Ram (2x4G) slotted in blue slots side by side (1 and 2 not 1 and 3), unganged (default no OC) CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 (RAM Type) AMD Phenom Black True Quad Core 965 3.46GHZ (No OC) All Defaults, even CUP Fan is default 1TB WD Caviar SATA 1TB Seagate SATA (Ended up being Backup Disk because I thought it was corrupt in one of the other 4 times I installed this OS, now I have more space than most small buisnesses would ever dream to have) Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Sony DVD RW DRU-540A ATA Pioneer DVR-113NP ATA NVidia Gforce GT 220 Recently upon installing this OS I noticed that once I installed the updates (Recommended only) my system would fart out...HARD. Im talking BSOD"s out the wazu..pci.sys, Pagefault in Non Paged Area, Hard Stops, BSOD's that I could take notes fast enough because they popped up and were gone. Could not boot intop safe, I would get BSOD's even then..yada yada. I stood a broken and tired man after 28 hours of troubleshooting and multiple trips to frys. Then I did the old one stick boot and it works awesome with one but wont boot with the other stick and it broke the restore and image and would not reinstall the OS..omg wow sucks for me. I go get the same mem but 'newer' thanks to all of this happening within 15 days of my purchase. I come back home, put the same but 'newer RAM side by side and it loves me! Reinstalls no issue, here I am in this forum...cool. So now the question of the updates. There are 50 of them and 14 'optional'. I assume the optional is for people that want to gamble on killing thier system if they dont need them but want to download them. My beef is that I have this bad feeling that if I install the updates again that I would have to readup on all 62 of them to decide if I need them. I dont want any more BSOD's and I would be at my 6th install if this broke and since the mem replcement I dont know if it was the mem that broke the system or the updates or both. With some of the updates being compatability updates, I dont trust them in that they are probably compatability updates to break what is currently working! So what do you think..makers mark and updates or just makers mark? This rig will be used for music production and the components I will be installing are all x86 compatable but this whole thing still makes me nervous. I'm at the 1K mark with spending and I dont want anymore cash flying out of my wallet. Thought? Sorry for rambling and thank you for reading this and possibly responding.
