Networking problems using Wireless Router (DLink DIR-600) and wireless internet usb
I purchased a D Link DIR-600 recently as I have a laptop which I wanted to have access to the printer, the printer is connected to the PC. I successfully created a home network and printed from the laptop, however when I attempted to go on the internet from the PC using a Telsta NextG Ultimate USB, I was unable to connect to the internet, the router kept wanting to connect to the internet for me. When I disabled the ethernet cable from the D Link Router, I got internet connection. The Officeworks Store Person advised me that I could use this router to set up a home network for printer access only. <o:p></o:p> Basically All I want is to use the wireless DIR-600 router for connecting the laptop to to the printer and use my USB wireless connection for the internet. How can I bypass the router for internet connection and use my wireless USB, but also still have the router connected so that I can use it for printing, it is a pain to have to disable the router everytime I want to use the internet. <o:p></o:p>

Hi, Firstly, you can try to require your DNS from your ISP. If your ISP can provide it to you, please manually set your DNS and see how it works. If not, please refer to Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to set up ICS. After you've followed the steps above to set up ICS on the host computer, make the following changes on all of the other computers (but not on the host computer). Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.Click the Connections tab, and then click Never dial a connection.Click LAN Settings. In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, Under Automatic configuration, clear the Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script check boxes.Under Proxy server, clear the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box, and then click OK. If issue persists, please run the following commands to collect information: route print ipconfig /all Hope this helps. If a post solved your problem, click Mark as Answer on the post. The dlink dir 600 should comes with a installation Wizard CD-ROM, which walks you through the easy step-by-step installation process to set up your wireless network and Internet connection. So far have you try installing it with the CD? Alternatively you could configure DIR-600 manually (without the CD) connect your computer to the DIR-600 with the ethernet cable provided. Then connect the power cable on the DIR-600. The power light will display as solid blue. Next open a browser window and enter the IP address in the browser address field: IP ADDRESS : http://dlinkrouter or http://192.168.0.1 (default IP) USERNAME : admin PASS WORD: (blank) Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Once logged into the router config page, there's a option like dhcp or static IP, choose dhcp if you're running cable. Next you would need to ensure your laptop & the router is having the same ssid & passphrase before you could connect your laptop to the net using wireless. If you're using adsl, you would need to enter the username & password provided by your ISP. If you are not using dlink or third party wireless utility & are using windows wireless connection. Just follow the following step by Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, and then click Network and Sharing Center. Click Set up a new connection or network. Click Set up a new network, and then click Next The wizard will walk you through creating a network name (SSID) and a security key (passphrase) Like i mention earlier on, you would need to ensure the ssid & passphrase is the same for both laptop & router setting. Note: remember to save changes if you amend or makes any change in the router setting prior to existing. Once the above step are apply, next plug out the ethernet cable, restart the router as well as the laptop, once your laptop boot up into windows desktop, verify underneath the right hand side of the taskbar, there's a show hidden icon arrow, click on it if your wireless lan network is no where to be seen. Once you find the wireless network, it should display a list of wireless network name (ssid), choose the wireless name which you have created earlier on & next connect. If you have setup everything properly, you should be able to connect to the net using wireless.
