Networking issue from XP machine to Vista
Hi I am having an issue connecting to a machine of my network with Windows XP on it. \\pc-name\documents is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this service to find out if you have access permissions. I have tried to go into the User Rights Assignments in Local Policies to set it to everyone however everyone is not available. Gues is which I have granted gusts to access this PC but I still get the error. What could be wrong?

Hi, In Network and Sharing Center, is Vista recognizing the network as Private? Is Network Discovery and File sharing enabled? Do you have a password protected username on the Vista machine?

Network Discovery & File Sharing are enabled, however I could not find where it tells me if the network is private or not

Sorry I checked it again and it is private, it says: Network (Private Network) Also I do not have a password for file sharing however when I diagnose the problem I get that my username & password for the XP machine is not valid. However we have not set any other user up on the XP machine, we never had to before when it worked.

Hi, Please confirm if Simple File Sharing is enabled on the Windows XP machine. Is it a Windows XP Home Edition or Professional Edition? Additionally, please add the same account and password on both the Windows Vista and Windows XP machines, make the account Administrator, logon the Windows Vista with this account, access the share folder and check the result. If the issue persists, please capture a screenshot of the error message for further research. Hope it helps.
