Networking issue - Ethernet devices disappear
Hello, i have a user that has a very unusual issue, he unplugs his ethernet cable and then turns on his wireless and works in a meeting room or just away from his desk, its when he gets back to his desk he plugs in the ethernet cable and turns off his wireless to finds that there is no network.... after looking at is i found that the ethernet controller had disappeared from his list of devices.... only a restart of his computer while the cable is plugged in will it return (Or login as an admin and scan for hardware changes and it finds it and installs it). the only thing i found that i have tried is in the device properties then Power management tab there a check box which says 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' it was ticked but now it is not but this continues to accrue. any suggestion? the user setup is as follows HP Elite book 6730b with windows 7 enterprise 64bit, the network drivers have been reinstalled from the HP site and it is part of a domain.

My first suggestion is to make sure that this computer is using the latest drivers for the Network Interface Card. You should visit the HP website and check. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

While I normally like to investigate what the issue actually is by looking at the event logs, windows logs, vendor's etc for clues, you may find that if you simply go to Device Manager, Uninstall the device, let Windows Detect and re-install the device driver, the problem may simply be resolved. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

What is the model of the laptop? You need to ensure that the installed driver is designed for Windows 7.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
