Networking comptuers running Windows 7 & XP
Hi i own a dell dimension 2400, 4600, running XP service pack 3, an inspiron 1150 running XP professional and 2 computers running windows 7. An inspiron 1545 and a gateway netbook. What I would like to ultimately do is network these computers so i can access edit and view files on all of my computers at my leisure. on the windows 7 PC's i have had alittle more luck i can move files between these two computers but not retitle them once they're moved. in short i would like to be able to access all of these pc's files videos pics ect. from where ever i am in my house move and edit them from any computer. any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows what to do step by step please help! thank you. I know Homegroup is an option, but that only works with 7. I have also been able to share my c drive from my netbook running Win7, but my Inspiron 1545 running 7 will display this message when I try to share it. Error message: "an error has occurred while applying this security information C:\hiberfil.sys The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" I've tried copying the same security settings as my netbook, but still no luck. How would I go about changing permissions on all of my computers running XP & 7 in order for them to be shared totally. Please help!!
