Networked computers appear after reboot, then disappear
When I first boot my Windows 7 Home Premium laptop, I get a strong wireless internet connection and can see all of my networked XP machines. I can read and write anything on that network. However, after a while (not sure how long, but only a few minutes) the networked machines all disappear. Internet is still connected perfectly, but the XP networked machines disappear. To get them back, I must reboot and then everything works fine. I don't think it's my wireless NIC going to sleep because (1) the internet still works perfectly and (2) I have gone into power settings and told the NIC never to sleep when on power. Any suggestions? It drives me crazy. Fortunately I can still use sneaker net to move files, but that's so 1990. Help! Thanks!

Hi, I would like to suggest you disable all the antivirus programs to test the issue. If it does not work, I would like to suggest you install the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component to test the issue. Hey, Arthur: Thanks for the reply! Before posting my question I checked everything, including the antivirus and firewall, but no luck. Then yesterday I went back to my router and double-checked all the settings, which were correct. But I noticed that there was a firmware update available for the router so I installed it. Ever since then the network drives stay accessible without timing out. So maybe there was a flaw in the router firmware? Or maybe it wasn't a flaw but the router was timing out, for some reason, and the firmware update reset that to not time out. Who knows. But it is working now for 24 hours so I'm happy. Let's hope it keeps working. Thanks again!
