Network transfer speed
I have some odd issues when networking to a Vista 32 bit machine with my Win7 RC 64 bit machine. All drivers and patches are current, and I have gigabit connections and switches all around. All machines are at least dual-core 2.4ghz or faster. Tests from Win7 64-bit machine to Vista and XP. ---------------------- Win7 to XP 20 mbyte/sec XP to Win7 38 mbyte/sec Win7 to Vista 3 mbyte/sec Vista to Win7 3 mbyte/sec Tests from Vista 32-bit to Win7 and XP. ----------------------- Win7 to Vista 46 mbyte/sec Vista to Win7 31 mbyte/sec Vista to XP 20 mbyte/sec XP to Vista 37 mbyte/sec Tests from Win7 to D-Link DNS-323 (NAS) --------------------------------- Win7 to DNS-323 17 mbyte/sec Win7 from DNS-323 16 mbyte/sec Can anyone throw some light on why my file copy operations initiated from the Win7 machine are so slow to the Vista machine? All the other results make at least some sense, but that one is really odd.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

I'd suspect the 64 bit NIC driver. It's hard to tell from your table but it looks like the slow operations are always with the win7 64 bit OS?Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Well, actually, that's not really true. Notice that the Win7 machine (the only 64 bit one) transfers at the full speed of the NAS, my DNS-323 in both directions. It also does fine talking to the XP machine. It's only when originating the transfer from the Win7 machine to the Vista machine that the transfers are at a snail's pace. FWIW, I missed some entries in the table, because I'm still working out trying to get XP to connect to the Win7 machine. I can connect from the Win7 machine to XP fine, but for some reason I'm having a problem the other way. XP from Vista 3 mbyte/sec Vista from XP 3 mbyte/sec XP from Win7 *** connection issue being worked *** Win7 from XP *** connection issue being worked *** This may be a Vista issue, rather than a Win7 issue, I was hoping to be able to connect from the XP machine to the Win7 machine to get the final set of results.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

I have determined this is a problem with that Vista machine, not the Win7 machine. I fired up a laptop with Vista, and all the file transfers are at normal speed. For some reason, that particular machine has a problem talking to Win7 when Win7 initiates the transfer. All other combinations of Win7, Vista, and XP work normally. It would be an interesting find if I can figure out why that happens, because I've had a couple of people in forums ask the same question. :-) MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Well, I've resolved this, it was a Vista issue. Apparently, one of the many fixes for slow network transfers actually helped in this case. I turned autotuning off, and suddenly network transfers to the Vista machine are normal from all sources.MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

I have spent the past three weeks struggling with my two DNS-323’s and Win7 without any success at all, my transfer speed between computer and DNS-323 reaches no more then 140kB/sec L . My computer is a brand new Fujitsu with Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz with pre-installed Windows 7 (64). I also both a new router D-Link DIR-825. I’m 47 years old and my hair was already grey, however now it’s almost gone as well ;-)

Well, I'm on vacation now, so I don't happen to have that Windows 7 machine handy. :-) I don't do anything special in Windows networking. 140kB sounds petty awful, I can't even imagine how to make that happen! MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

This sounds similar to the problem I'm having with slow/failing transfers from Win7-64bit to XP. I've had auto-tuning turned off and didn't see a change. Glad that fixed your problem.
