Network shows every machine twice.
My network shows every machine twice, once under our doamain and again under just "Workgroup". Has anyone seen this phenomena? I think I had an update just before I started seeing this.

That may be a temporary problem, if you are using netbios name resolution (if you checked "enable Netbios over TCP/IP" on the WINS tab of the TCP/IPv4 properties of the network adapter). Maybe a new PC was added to your network, which is not - or was not joined to the domain and somehow aquired the master browser or backup browser role in your network. If you join that PC to the domain and reboot it - that issue should go away over time (can be up to one hour). Wolfgang

I have had a few MRxSmb errors every once in a great while. For the most part, most of those errors, are caused by only 2-3 machines and very far in between. I've been looking at this for 5-6 weeks and I thought it would go away but never has and it has not had any detrimental effects on our network. We also do not run WINS and I belive we should as we run in a mixed mode environment. I inherited this network and there are things that I find that are a conundrum. Having said that I am now running down all the machines that may have caused the MRxSmb errors because of all explanations and checking I've done, I did not know that this could happen when another machine gets on. Thanks Wolfgang for the avenue to pursue. DrummerOG Found the problem! Several weeks ago, My system began giving me errors and It owuld not let me into domain or give me a NIC. Long story short, When rebooted it asked for a profile and all I could choose was Home/Work. After reinstalling NIC driver rebooted and putback on domain but it woild not let me choose Domain Profile. After another reboot I was able to ask for Domain and it changed, however, the Home/Work profile had shared printers and folders along with my domain. I removed the sharing for Home/Work and immediately all the doubles went away aross the entire network! Who knew?

Hi DrummerOG, Thanks for your reply. I checked your situation about the problem you encountered. I would like to know if you have multiple NIC cards so that it caused the twice issue and the symptom you have when connecting to Domain profile. If you have more than one Network Connections, it can be explained that each of them choose the different object in Network: one choose the Home/work and the other choose the Domain. Then when you reboot the machine, the symptom you had can be appeared temporarily. However, if you have only single NIC card, I think it is hard for us to tell how the issue happens. For doing more research, we think this can be caused by the NIC card itself, such as the driver or the other devices error. If anything is unclear in my email, please feel free to let me know. I appreciate your time. Best Regards, Annie

I only have one NIC and I agree, that NIC may have caused all my problems with my machine acting as if it was on a Home/Work network and a Domain. Unsharing Home/Work sloved my problem, yet I may have to install a new NIC just in case it happens again, I can enable the new one and disable the old one. Other than that, this was a mystery, hope it doesn't come back. Thank you for input! Regards Armando Armando V. Cardenas
