Hi I have a few questions about the "network profiles" that are available in windows 7. I just found where to manage, merge and delete them. But my questions are: what are they EXACTLY doing... I realised that they control "advanced sharing settings"... But these "advanced sharing settings"... what are they doing? There is options for: -Network discovery -File and printer sharing -Public folder sharing -File sharing encryption -Password protected sharing -Home Group Having disabled the windows firewall, I realised that the Network Discovery was enabled... So I disabled it and it enabled windows firewall again... So, my question would be, are these settings only controlling the windows firewall? Is it only Network Discovery? Are the others settings controling something else than the windows firewall??? And my other question would be: how does windows recognizes a network connection. What I mean is that, let's imagine a WI-FI connection. Is windows only looking at the network SSID and password to apply the appropriate stored network profile? And what about wired connections?? How does windows remembers the network profile to apply to a connection?? It can't be with the IP address, gateway and others connections settings since it is a "network adapter" setting.... So... is there only one network profile for each network adapter???... Thanks a lot for your help Alex
