Network problem??
Hi, I have 3 computers with windows 7. Internet is good on all pc's. I can not get home network to work to share printers. The network is a wireless one and the router is in another building and I am using a linksys range extenter (repeter) to get the internet router signal to this building. I am able to set up the "home network" on each of the three computers but none will recognise any of the others. INstructions say i should see an option to conect to avalable computers but none show up. All are set to allow other computers to see each computer. Any Ideas??? Thanks Paul

So you are extending your Neighbor's wireless.. To verify if its a network issue, troubleshoot this using network tools at the network layer, not application layer. With the three computers powered on start by using the IPCONFIG command and verify that all three computers are on the same logical segement (different IPs, same subnet mask, same default gateway). Next, use the PING command to test for basic network connectivity. Ping via IP and via name to also test for name resolution. If any of these tests fail, first check to make sure the firewalls on each computer are either disabled or properly configured to allow for the three computers to connect to each other. If the firewalls are set to enabled and not to allow for exemptions, the three computers will not be able to communicate with each other. If all checks out well, then you should continue to troubleshoot this as a problem with setting up a Windows "home network". Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
