Network printer not printing via TCP/IP
I have a Xerox Docuprint 4517, I know it is an older printer but it does a good job and is cheap to run, the problem I have is that it will not print via TCP/IP, I can ping it and no problem. It never worked with vista with TCP/IP, When I first tried W7 Beta it worked, but now on RC I have the same situation as with Vista. I have tried the port for this printer in the port setup and generic and get he same result.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Hi,
Does the printer connect to certain computer or router?
At this stage, I suggest you plug the printer to Windows 7 machine directly for a test. Does the printer work fine? If not, please let me know. Otherwise, I suggest you refer to the following article to share a printer.
File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista
Hope this helps.

The printer works as a shared printer, it's not a sharing issue this is a network printer and I would like to use it as such, it will not print either plugged into router/switch or directly into the PC. I would rather not have to turn on the computer next to the printerevery timeI use it. I have a notebook computer with XP and it has no problem printing via TCP/IP, it VIstaandwindows 7 that iscasingthis issue.

Did xerox say that those printer model is compatible with either vista or window7? Did you use latest driver for it?

Well Vista comes with a driver for the printer and a driver for the network card also. I have emailed Xerox and get no response. As I have said it worked with Windows 7 Beta, but not with the RC version. Isuspectit is something to do with the firewall or similar.

Which AV are you using?is it with firewall? if you think that firewall is the problem, disable the whole firewall and test it.

Thanks for trying but I have turned off firewall, I have scrapped it and bought a HP, DON'T BY XEROX, THEY NEVER REPLY TO QUESTIONS ON THERE SUPPORT SITE AND DON'T KEEP UP TO DATE WITH DRIVERS!

I have the same problem with an HP7700. I have configured static ip address to printer, and it works consistantly with XP, but 2 of the windows 7 machines some how lose the port settings. If I release and renew and put the static back in, it will then
find it and print but only for a week or so.

In some cases, the Add Printer Wizard may not be available to you. At that time, just open the Printer Wizard through the Control Panel. After that choose the ‘Network Printer’ page and go through the ‘TCP/IP’ page and complete
the additional steps in the wizard. Get more information for

It is not an issue with the Xerox printer or driver. We have same issue in Win7, no matter what brand of printer we configure creating new TCP/IP port. Limited users are unable to print via TCP/IP. However, admins are able to. Adding users to print op group
fixes the issue .
Since it is pinging IP address of the printer, check whether you are able to acess printer config or web printing option by typing printers IP address in Internet Explorer.
