Network printer connection is lost.
Periodically my network printer refuses to print. When I check the port, I observe that the ip in the port does not match the ip of the printer. Changeing the port to one with the proper IP does not help.Rebooting is my usual solution although deleting and reinstalling the printer also works.I believe this is due to IP being assigned by the router(DHCP) and equipment being turned on in various sequences results in the IP changing. Router is Linksys WRT310n, Printer HP 3600n, OS is XP Pro and VistaHow can I get the print spooler to reestablish the correct link when it changes. In XP I have checked an option that says maintain connection by name even if port changes, but it does not seem to have an effect.1 person needs an answerI do too

HiSome Routers can do IP reservation. I.e., you can leave the Printer's IP on Auto and the Router's DHCP will always assign to it the same IP.If the Router does not do IP reservation, then configure its IP to a static IP out of the DHCP range and redo the sharing. I belive I can set the printer to an IP outside of DHCP range. Have not tried that yet.

I went into the printer and set the IP to static. Then I went into the print spooler and created a new port with the new IP.This time everything worked as expected. Must have made a mistake on previous attempt.Created new ports for all computers and they worked fine. Assume problem is solved.I assume one could delete and reinstall the printer rather than create ports.

HiAfter establishing Static IP, or IP reservation. One can do what you did, or delete and reinstall. The important thing is to provide Network peripherals (Printers, Servers, NAS, etc.) address that does not change, so they can be found always at the same place.Jack-MVP Windows Networking.
