Network places icon
Hi, I found that copying my previous Xp network places shortcuts to \Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts saved me the trouble to re set them but unfortunately Nowhere did I find a way to change their icons like I did in Xp. Is it at least possible in seven ?

Hi, As we know, there are some differences on system icons between Windows 7 and Windows XP due to how they are designed. For more information, please also refer to: Icons The default icon for “My Network Places” is come with the system and it is located in “C:\Windows\system32\imageres.dll”. To change it, we can just right click on its icon, select Properties and click the Change Icon button in the Shortcut tab of My Network Places Properties. However, maybe we could not find the Windows XP icon for “My Network Places”. Based on my test, I think you can try the following: 1. Copy the “Shell32.dll” in “C:\windows\system32” from the Windows XP computer and save it to the Windows 7 computer and change its name, such as “xpicon.dll” or some other name which you like (I just use xpicon.dll as example.). 2. In Windows 7 computer, right click on My Network Places, select Properties and click the Change Icon button. 3. In Change Icon dialogue box, click Browse, locate the xpicon.dll and click Open. Then, you can see the Windows XP icon for “My Network Places”. 4. Select it and click OK twice to apply this change. Then, you will see the icon for “My Network Places” has been changed to the Windows XP one. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
