Network path not found when trying to view event logs remotely
Hi, I have a domain running SBS 2003. We recently upgraded all the workstations to Windows 7 Professional and now I'm getting the error "Unable to connect to the computer *****. The error was: Network Path Not Found" when trying to view the event logs on the workstations from the server. I can access the machines via terminal services and I don't think it's a firewall issue. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Neal

I suggest you remove the computers objects from AD and re-join the computers to the domain. That is because if the previous systems are all Windows XP, when you upgrade the systems to Windows 7 the systems are actually reinstalled. The computer IDs will be changed although you assign the same computer name after installing Windows 7.Arthur Xie - MSFT

These are new computers, fresh out of the box and we're not reusing computer names. Any other thoughts?

Hi, eitri; Sorry, I don't think you're going to be able to view the Windows 7 event logs remotely from any system earlier than Vista. The structure of the logs was changed in Vista/Win 7 from what it was in XP/Win 2003 and the older OSes don't understand the logs on the newer systems. The good news is you should be able to access the logs remotely from another Windows 7 machine and Windows 7 can access the logs of XP/Win 2003.
