Network issue, hope fixed in RTM
I found an issue today after installing the latest build.I have a file server (name simply 'server')running Vista 32bit on my LAN. From my laptop, also running 32bit Vista, I can see the server when I browse the network. In W7 the server does not show up as part of my network, however if I type \\serverin the explorer address bar I get access. Is this a network discovery bug or just a glitch in my particular system? My main test PC is running 64bit W7 if that makes a difference. Also I have W7 dual-booted with Vista 64 and that Vista sees the server fine so it is not a hardware issue. As I can actually access the server this is not a major problem, just a curiosity I noticed and wondered if anyone else was seeing the same.Thanks.Paul

Hi Paul, Is there any other computers in the network? Are they displayed in network browser properly in both computers? Both system needs to enable Network Discovery. Please re-check the settings. If it is not the cause, I suggest that you check if NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both systems. Also please make sure that the following services are enabled. UPnP Device HostComputer Browser If the issue is not resolved, please export the IP configuration in both computers and paste them in your next post. Please run the following comman: ipconfig /all > %userprofile%\Desktop\ipconfig.txt The information will be exported to the file ipconfig.txt on Desktop. Please check and upload.Arthur Xie - MSFT

OK, I thought this was a glitch but it is not.I will be working on the server, through a connection from W7 and all is well. Then my IDE will inform me that my files have been deleted. When I switch to the server nothing is wrong at all, but W7 has lost the connection. I tested with my laptop and when W7 loses the connection my laptop does not...so this cannot be a LAN issue, it is clearly a W7 issue.Today I lost connection to the server so many times that I am seriously starting to believe there is a bug in W7 where networking is concerned. What makes this more apparent to me is that when I lose connection to my server, I also lose it to my laptop, yet both laptop and server can still see the W7 PC.Any help on this is much appreciated although I am very close to deleting W7 altogether as it is now costing medevelopment time. You can see from this screen shot that, while the network map correctly shows 4 PCs on the network, none of them are accessible from the W7 box, yet from the others all are. http://webtop-designs.com/images/network_map.gif
