Network failure to reach internet on system reboot
I have a problem in Win7 rc1, the network connection refuses to connect with the internet after I restart the system. I can fix this problem only by disabling the NIC, then running repair from inside the Internet browser. When it finishes the repair I can then reconnect to the internet. The funny thing I can access the router. The system will just not show then internet. Any Ideas on a permanent Fix?? Thanks, Shaun...System tech/designer/user

System tech/designer/user When you say "refuses to connect with the internet" do you mean that you can't use ie to view web pages? Can you ping web sites? Can you use firefox to view pages? I have a simular problem on a fresh install. I can't use ie to view web pages but I can use firefox and ping the sites.

On bootup, wait for about 15 to 20 seconds before loging on. Give the device driver time to load.

I have a similar problem only I have to get into the advanced driver properties then disable the tx and rx, once I do this and the page refreshes I can re-enable tx/rx and it starts working again.

I have a similar problem only I have to get into the advanced driver properties then disable the tx and rx, once I do this and the page refreshes I can re-enable tx/rx and it starts working again. Same problem here, fails to connect to the internet after reboot (I have waited up to 3 minutes). The icon in the system tray displays a caution triangle and clicking on the icon displays "Network, no internet access". I have been able to connect by right-click on the icon and open the Troubleshooter, it takes a few seconds. I use a router with NAT.

I have been getting the same problem with internet access after re-booting. Connection to router and the rest of the network is OK, and all the rest of the network has internet access via the router. OtherOSs on the same computer also work OK.I have found that the problem is less frequent when using a wireless connection instead of Ethernet cable. This first arose after installing Adobe CS3.The installation required a re-boot, and internet accessthen disappeared. The problem seemed to go away after a couple of repeated tries at uninstal/reinstal, but then came back after a few more re-boots.Any common features here?gbr13697

I had this problem on Windows 7(x86) Beta not every time after restart. After I'veinstalled Windows 7 (x64) RC it started to happen after every reboot.I don't have Office 2007 nor Photoshop CS3 installed and don't now the reason it happens. After a lot of searching I founda program NetSetMan. You can read more about this utility on Lifehacker. After I installed it and configured it my network is working properly after reboot. Hope it will help you! Good luck!

Folks on this thread, Please run Windows Update and confirm that you are running the latest updates for your network adapters. If you have the latest updates and you are still seeing problems, please reply with: --- make/model of the Wi-Fi card. You can get this by typing "netsh wlan sho dr" on the command prompt ----make/model of your Wi-Fi router --- problem symptoms and step by step reproduction steps for problem to happen. If the problem is that you do not have internet connectivity then please check: * Can you ping the default gateway (look for it in the output of ipconfig.exe)* Are other machines experiencing network problems at the same time or is theissue confined to the Windows7 machine?* Does the issue occur over wired or wireless or both? Thanks,Alok ManchandaMicrosoft Corporation

Hi AlokMy home network is a 3-PC setup. One running win/98, one running xp/home and the 3rd running exclusively 7RC (It's not in a VM). The internet is shared among all three and they are all tied in through an RJ-45 DHCP server. I won't touch wireless. The 7RC machine is a Dell Insprion 530s with an Intel 82562V-2 10/100 built-inNIC.Most of the time, all I have to do is wait for the hard drive access light to quit flashingbefore logging onto the network at bootup and it comes up fine. Occasionally, however, the "blue circle" keeps circling the wagon. After a few seconds, the caution triangle appears and I have to reboot. Don't see any point in trying to ping. There are no network issues with the other two machines.Hope this helps.CheersKnucklebuster

I have this issue as well. The temporary (and very annoying) solution I have found is to unplug the ethernet cord, power on the machine, wait for everything to load, then plug in the ethernet cord. I am running a Netgear rangemax pre-N router and have the nvidia 680i chipset. This is a dual boot machine with xp pro SP3 and I have no problems with it. I was told that it may have something to do with the protocols that windows 7 communicates with my router? I have not tried to use a different router as my router works great with all my other machines including my vista machines. I have checked that windows is updated and tried to reinstall the drivers. Current drivers are the default windows drivers (yes I have tried latest manufacture drivers as well). This has been happening from day 1 of my install of 7 beta. Also when I do use this trick I notice that copying files across my network with server 2003 it will randomly drop the file transfer makeing it extremely difficult to backup personal files. This problem again does not exist on any other machine xp or vista.

Knuclebuster/tazman6547, Would you please let me know which driver you have for your wired NIC? I am looking for driver date and version. Additionally * when you boot up do you have an IP address? * if you have an IP address, can you ping the gateway? * if you don't have an IP address can you get one by running ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew? * if this does not work can you disable and enable the NIC in device manager and then get things working? Thanks, Alok Manchanda Microsoft Corporation

My NIC is an Intel 82562V-2 10/100 as provided by Microsoft. Date of driver: 3.26.09. version 9.13.4.10. It's the most current. It's setup for dynamic IP addressing. When network fails on bootup, troubleshooting says there's no IP address.ipconfig /release/renew doesn't work since there's no IP address.Haven't tried item #4

I have the same problem; iget an event with "cannot find dns client server" following by a time-out.When is disable and enable my network-adapter the problem is over, but sometimes (not always) with a reboot i get the same error.

knuclebuster,Thanks for your reply. Yes release is redundant since there is no IP address. Please run ipconfig /renew and check if that manages to acquire an address. If that does not work, please check if disabling and enabling the adapter gets an address and reply back with your results. Once we know these results we'll request you to enable the right trace providers and collect traces when you see this issue. Thanks very much for testing Windows7!Alok ManchandaMicrosoft Corporation

Thanks for your reply siemon1950. Please answer the questions below and we will follow up.* what does the networking troubleshooter say when you encounter this problem?* when you encounter the problem, do you have an IP address?* if you have an IP address, can you ping the gateway?* if you don't have an IP address can you get one by running ipconfig /renew?* if this does not work can you disable and enable the NIC in device manager and then get things working? Thanks,Alok ManchandaMicrosoft Corporation

...Please run ipconfig /renew and check if that manages to acquire an address...Alok ManchandaMicrosoft Corporation I'll do that the next time it fails to connect but as of late, it's been booting up and connecting just fine. Go figure.

I have a simular problem on a fresh install. I can't use ie to view web pages but I can use firefox and ping the sites. This is exactly the problem I am dealing with now. IE8 can read downloaded webfiles, but refuses to connect to webpages online-throwing out the error I usually get when I need to reset my modem/router or DNS issues. I've tried Opera and Firefox, which both work. However, other programs utilizing IE for webpages (Steam, different game launchers) will all fail to connect to the web portions, while still allowing me in limited cases to download programs and patches. Like others experiencing problems currently, I am using an nForce SLI motherboard and thus nForce network adapters. Edit: I connect to my Linksys router via cat 5, not wireless. I am presently using Build 7000. Is there a workaround available that will allow me to use IE8?

Okay, it did it again but there's a catch here.I found this out last night when we had a good 'ol fashioned Desert South West thunder-boomer and had to disconnect and unplug everything to protect from lightening.I have a 3-PC network here at home. One is a Dell Inspiron 530s running 7100RC, one is a Dell Dimension 2400 running xp home and the third is some off-brand running windows/98r2 that I use for data backup. If the 98 machine isunplugged from the AC socket or the RJ-45 cable is unplugged, the 7RC machine will not connect. I tried ipconfig /release/renew and it connected for a few seconds before going off-line again. I could get to thexp network machine but not the net.If the 98 machine is plugged in (doesn't need to be powered on) and the cable is in the network, boots and connects just fine.

Folks on this thread,If you are seeing local network connection work just fine (have IP, can ping default gateway) and no Internet access then please check if you have an entry like the below in your routing table (output of command: route print). We have heard reports that some third party software (not sure which) add these entries and thus mess up Internet access till either the entry is manually deleted or you disable and enable the adapter. If you have this entry then you should be able to unblock yourself by deleting it (route delete 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 METRIC <METRIC-VALUE> IF <LOCAL-IP-ADDRESS>). Let me know if this is the cause of your problem and we will follow up and try and identify the problematic third party program.Thanks,-alok. Hey guys how about this? I see the local network connection fine (I have IP, and can ping the default gateway) however, everytime the system is started or has to reboot, it tells me that I have no internet access. If I run ipconfig and do a release and renew then **BAMM** all of a sudden it connects. But I have to do this everytime. It has done this from the initial install, I do not have any third party software installed. I tried the fix Alok posted but it didn't work for me. Below are my system stats. AMD 5400 2.8GHz4 GB RamASUS M2N-E SLI Board500 GB WD DriveNIC - NVIDIA nForce Network ControllerDriver: MicrosoftVersion:1.0.1.211 Date: 10/17/2008 Connected to AT&T DSL Uverse modem. Running 32 Bit Windows 7 build 7100 Any help would be great, as I am all out of new ideas.

Seems to be common among NForce Network controllers on NForce boards.

Local network works fine, access to default gateway fine, everytime system is rebooted I loose Internet access (IE8 or Firefox). Networking Troubleshooter says everything is working fine. Disabling network adapter and then re-enabling it fixes this.Dual Boot to Vista Enterprise - No problems encountered in Vista on same hardware.Asus P6T6 GB RAMi7 920 CPURealtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) - Microsoft Driver 7.2.1127.2008 5/14/2009Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 64bit

Hi Alok I have the same problem: after close or reboot no internet access. The most curious is that some time, after a few second, bum... the gate is open. Responding your questions: * what does the networking troubleshooter say when you encounter this problem? nothing * when you encounter the problem, do you have an IP address? no * if you have an IP address, can you ping the gateway? yes * if you don't have an IP address can you get one by running ipconfig /renew? no * if this does not work can you disable and enable the NIC in device manager and then get things working? yes For the last one what I usually do is: right click on the access icon and disable the Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base Controller. Fews seconds later I able the card again and bumba! Everything becomes "normal". Any tip? Thanks and take care! Alberto

I just rebooted and had this problem for what seems like the 100th time. It always happens when I do a software update, upgrade or install and then reboot. I am not sure if this route delete solution that you provided is permanant or if it is just a work around. Is there a way to permantly alter or block these entries in the routing table? - NIC card -- NVIDIA nForce Network Controller - Router -- Linksys WRT54G * Can you ping the default gateway -- Yes * Are other machines experiencing network problems at the same time or is the issue confined to the Windows7 machine -- Only windows 7 machine * Does the issue occur over wired or wireless or both -- it occurs both, but my wireless and two lan adapters are onboard with my MB which is an ASUS M2N-E SLI Board the same as CAV SCOUT's
