On your file server, what is the underlying OS? If it is a Linux based OS that uses Samba or CIFS to share out to Windows clients, you may need to adjust your NTLM authentication properties. At the Start menu search dialog box, type secpol.msc. Navigate to Local Policies >> Security Options. Go down to Network security: LAN Manager authentication level and first read the Explain tab. Then go ahead and change the authentication level to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. If this fails to work, make sure you set your authentication properties back to the default level.

Does your Windows 7 machine use a "HomeGroup" and if so, I suggest you try using a "Work Network" instead.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

Hi, I have the same problem. I changed the authentication level as you descriped, but did not work. I use a nas on which a linux is running. A friend of me could access the nas with a notebook with Windows 7. When I try to access the nas through the explorer, I get the error message. When I try to connect to a networkdisk using the path of the shared folder, I get the error message :"More data available".

You can find out by right clicking on that drive and seeing what file system is on the drive.

I have the same problem, with XP en Vista everything works fine !!!?? I think i have found the problem, right click on computer, advanced system settings, choose Tab Computer Name, then Network ID, what i see is that the option This computer is a part of a business network is enabled. So i choose the option This is a home computer not connected to a business network. Then Next and Finish. Restart the system.Again i go in Network ID and see that nothing is changed...I'm still a part of a business network......??? I think this is the problem !!! I think my computer is still in a domain, but i haven't a domain, so i can't reach the other computers and external Disk on the home network because they are not in a domain !!! Sharing solutions and mapping won't work now !!! Is this true ??

The Error ''0x80070035 network path not found'' is one that i constantly received whilst trying to network my desktop with my laptop. I SOLVED IT EASILY THOUGH Before i proceed; note the following points: 1. I am running Vista 2. I have a MWEB Billion Router 3. The laptop is already connected wirelessly and can access the internet etc 4. I have set up the desktop as my host pc which stores all the info i want to access The observations where as follows: 1. The host pc is picked up on the laptop 2. When selected it produced the following error: 0x80070035 network path not found 3. I tried various options such as ticking the TCP/IP and enabling all the possible options available under network connections properties. 4. This still produced the error although the host computer is pinged The solution was simple: I was running NORTON 360. Under firewall settings; disable personal firewall. Once this is done, access is allowed to the host pc. You can then set your permissions, create network paths and map network drives like you would normally do.

Since you are able to see and access Computer 2 from Computer 1 and unable to see computer 2 from computer 1. I would suggest you to first check with both the computer if the Network discovery is turned on both the computer. To turn on network discovery 1.Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click Change advanced sharing settings. 2.Click the chevron to expand the current network profile. 3.If network discovery is off, under Network discovery, click Turn on network discovery, and then click save changes. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Also you may access the link and follow the steps and check if it helps to see the computer 2. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Why-can-t-I-connect-to-other-computers Also you may verify if you can access computer 2 from computer 1 by opening with the run command and typing the IP address of computer 2. To do this, follow the steps in computer 1. 1. Click on Start 2. In the start search box type \\ipaddress\ of the computer 2 and press enter eg: \\192.168.0.2\ Check if this opens and connects to Computer 2 in the network. Also you may try to boot both the computer in safe mode with networking and see if they are able to see each other. To boot to the desktop in safe mode with networking keep tapping F8 key during restart. Once you see the option to boot in safe mode with networking select it and press enter. Access the link to know more about how to boot the computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

I had this error while trying to access a Vista, XP and Win98 computer(s) on local network. 1. Using private net setting 2. Workgroups all set the same 3. All network settings allow file/print sharing w/no password required I couldn't even see other pc's in Network. Solution was to run the network wizard which made them visible via settings unknown to me. Still got error when trying access via name/unc but could ping ip addresses. I could use the \\ip\share to open the non-pw protected directory on Win98 pc, but not others, nor could I connect to printer on Vista via share or ip. I found numerous tips on setting security/sharing/firewall/registry items to fix it but nothing worked. I finally found out that ipv6 can override ipv4 networks, blocking access. The solution is found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852 Basically you are disabling ipv6 so that Windows 7 can 'talk' to older pc's and routers that don't support ipv6. An easier way may be to open your network adapter's properties page and uncheck the box next to TCP/IPv6, then reboot. Once I did that, all my shares and printers were visible! I still can't access the 'hidden/pw protected' drives on my win98 pc, so I'm still working on that issue (and yes I have matching accounts/pwd on both pc's), sigh...
