Network driver installation freezes in Windows 7
Hi all,Every time when Itry update network driversusing Windows Update or install NDIS filter (when installing antivirus/firewall), installation process freezes right after driver is actually installed. There is no way to restart or shutdown computer in normal way after installation freezed - only using reset. But after restart driver appears as installed and works well. There is a screencast which illustrates problem: http://cid-d1d348276f87717c.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Win7/win7-rtl8139-update.aviP.S. I have no such problem in Vista.

This issue can be caused by the anti-virus such as Kaspersky. I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus program and then check the result. If the issue persists, I suggest that you manually download the latest driver for the network adapter, remove the existed driver and reinstall it. I recommend that you keep Kaspersky disabled when installing. Arthur Xie - MSFT

The similar problem occurs as well at antivirus installation. (KAV installs it's own NDIS filter). I've tried to install driver's update when antivirus was not installed, but with same result. I reinstalled system of times twenty, trying different variants, changing network cards, etc. But result always same. Manual driver update goes without problems, but it's not a solution - is any case, there is an issue in Win7 which must be fixed.P.S. I can't install KAV as well because of this issue.P.P.S. This issue exists in both 32 and 64 bit versions.Thanks.

This should not be a Windows 7 beta issue. Users can install updates from Windows Update website, Kaspersky was installed on our test computers as well. This issue can be caused by background programs. I suggest that you disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. If the issue persists, please let us know if your computer is from computer manufacturer, or you built it by yourself. Arthur Xie - MSFT
