Network discovery not working as expected
You dont want your pc's connected network wise? Leave home group, Un-share all folders and drives. (make "NoBody" the defualt for your folders). Anything that is green in network and sharing, make red, turn off. In home group delete all "allowed" devices. Delete all credentials in credential manager. Then delete network adaptors. Your pc should be offline. Home group will be a problem with your living arrangments, dont use it. I would assume that your communal router allows internet pass through. Set up your internet in accordance to your provider settings. If you wish to network your personal PC's, set up an ad-hoc between your PC's. As to network discovery, home group is not the same as network, and yes, til you get them figured out, they can create problems.

I have 2 laptops, each running Win 7 Ult 32bit, and live in a group house with many other computers. Both laptops are on the same wireless network. I'm trying to change some basic networking settings. I would like neither of my laptops to show up in the 'network' list in Windows Explorer. On laptop2 I went into Network and Sharing Center --> Advanced sharing settings and changed 'Network discover' to "Turn off network discovery." However, when I open up Windows Explorer --> Network on laptop1, laptop2 is still displayed in the list. I have rebooted both laptops and the behavior persists. Any thoughts? Am I missing a setting, or misinterpreting what should happen, or what? To thicken the plot, when 'Turn on network discovery' is enabled on laptop1, it does *not* show up in Windows Explorer --> Network list on laptop2. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you. >> You dont want your pc's connected network wise? Yes I want *my* pc's connected network wise--I just don't want them to also be connected to other computers. I'll try out your suggestions when I get some time. I'll also do research into homegroup vs. network. Thanks again.
